I'm heterozygous, meaning I have one mutated gene for Factor V Leiden, and from the way my Doctor is talking I'm going to be monitored closely during this pregnancy. My mother is homozygous- having two mutated genes and my sibling are all heterozygous like me. Although I have no history of clots, by brother, mother, some aunts and a couple cousin's do.

I'm just wondering if any other mom's are heterozygous or homozygous for this blood disorder and how it's being handled. Or just experiences going through pregnancy with it.

I am really glad you started this thread. My dad was just diagnosed as Factor V last week, and my doctor has me scheduled for all sorts of blood testing to find out if I have it too. I have been on pins and needles waiting to find out!! My testing doesn't start until the 20th.

My doc told me that if I did have it, I would be put on blood thinners immediately, despite the pregnancy.

My dad and his mother have had issues with blood clots. My mom had one when she was bedridden, but I think that was just coincidence. However, my father's brother has not had any issues. So we are really just hoping that I lucked out and don't have it.

However I am curious to see how other people are handling it, especially during pregnancy.

How far along are you? I'm 7 weeks 5 days myself. I knew I was a carrier of the mutated gene before I got pregnant. My mother was diagnosed as having two mutated genes when she was pregnant with my youngest brother (The last of her seven children), and she had us us tested as a result. That was 12 years ago of course.

My Doctor's had the test ran again to confirm what I was able to tell them, and they called today to let me know the results and the fact that they will probably want to see me every 2-3 weeks instead of 4. We're going to be discussing the results further at my next appointment and coming up with a treatment plan.

I'm curious to see the treatments other people are getting during pregnancy, and I'm looking forward to an update on you. Now that this thread is up and going I'll keep it updated with my treatment plan at least.

I have it and also heterozygous. Found out 11 years ago after 1 miscarriage. I already had one daughter. When I got pregnant again they put me on heparin every 12 hours up until I went into labor. Had not issues or problems just a bruised belly the whole pregnancy. Went on to have 3 more miscarriages was put on lovenox for 2 of those pregnancies. I am now 11 weeks and my specialist had me start taking low dose aspirin before I started trying. I will continue the aspirin until labor. He said studies show it works just as well as lovenox especially since I have no history of clots.

I'm slightly curious as to what treatment plan my doctor's will take. I've had m/c's before and this never came up, but this is also the first time that the Doctor I've seen has seemed to put any importance on the mutant gene of mine. Thank you for adding your experiences though. Since the call I've been a bit nervous and going 'what if this was the cause of my previous troubles.'

I'm 6+5, we had no idea about my dad having Factor V until after I was already pregnant. In fact, he came to visit me one day and I told him about the pregnancy; turns out he had come that day to tell me about the Factor V as well. He's heterozygous, so I guess that gives me a 50/50 shot of having it.

Miscarriage is my biggest fear with this. This is myi very first pregnancy ever.

However, my doctor did tell me something to put my mind at ease. I was on birth control for 8 years, and she said if I did have Factor V, it's likely that it plus the BC would have created a perfect storm of sorts, and I probably would have had a problem by now. I felt relieved until she mentioned "You might have lots of blood clots right now that we just don't know about, though." Which made me go right back to feeling panicked and terrible.

I keep wondering if I should call the hematologist and see if they can get me in earlier. I am just so afraid of miscarriage. My appointment is in 10 days.

Meee! I have daily injections during pregnancy, and daily aspirin extra scans and considered high risk... I discovered I havethrombaphillia type two factor 2 v laden... after my first son was still born, after my third I had 6 blood clots in my lungs,...the thing is you don't have a history of clots, until you get one.... Best advice I can give, don't be like me.... Take your meds!!!

For me sticking to taking the injections when pregnant was no problem, it was the ten weeks after thge birth that I thought " oh well baby is here and safe, I will be fine" big mistake :/

Well, good news, my sister got her blood test results back today and she doesn't have Factor V, now I am feeling a little more hopeful about myself! I'm still a little miffed that the hematologist won't see me until the 20th, though, especially with the higher risk of miscarriage.

It sounds horrible but I think that is why they don't see you... :( at least they tested you all, I had no clue until after it was too late.

Oh, wow, I had no idea that may be the case. I was only 5 weeks along when I went to see my doc the first time, and I'll be 8 weeks when the hematologist finally gets me in. That is..really discomforting.

I'm really sorry to hear about what happened to you.

hi
i have factor v leidens, this is my second pregnancy of knowing i have it... the first pregnancy i was put on 150mg of baby aspirin but this time the ob wants me to go on clexane (injections) the first pregnancy i was high risk and had to have weekly scans from 32 weeks to check the blood flow through the placenta, i was constantly at the hospital. i'm hoping for a less stressful pregnancy this time..

Welcome and keep up updated on how you're doing!! We'll be doing the same. I have my next appointment with my OB this Friday, and we're talking treatment plans then.

I have homozygous Factor II. I didn't find out about it until I had 2 miscarriages unfortunately. My last pregnancy I started Lovenox immediately and had a healthy baby girl, this time I'm following the same plan and I'm 30 weeks. 2x/day Lovenox and then they switched me to heparin a few weeks before my due date as I believe the Lovenox can present complications with epidural and other labor meds. Anyway the injections aren't bad for me, you get used to them pretty quickly. I'm just happy to do whatever is needed for my babies!

I don't know which one I have. Just found out after having a miscarriage - although there's no way of knowing that had anything to do with it. It was very early. My doc wasn't very informative over the phone, and I didn't know to ask.

Are you guys taking a baby aspirin or a lot more? I'm ttc again and my doctor said I don't even need aspirin. If I have another, then he'll be more aggressive. Which is awful - why wouldn't we do something now after one loss? I'm going to go ahead and take aspirin I think. I've made an appointment with another OB for a second opinion. So glad you started this thread! Congratulations on all the babies and pregnancies in this thread!

hi girls
i went to see my ob and he has told me to stay on the aspirin (150mg) through out the whole pregnancy again... i will be needing injections after the baby is born. it does seem that i will be high risk again and that will mean scans at 12 weeks, 20, 28 and 32 weeks... but obviously like last time if they do see a problem with the blood flow it will be weekly scans again... i have to see a consultant again throughout as its high risk and obviously they wont let me go to term again...
