False positives DO exist!

I am writing this in tears. For the last 6 days I have been getting positives on 10miu tests. My period is due tomorrow and I decided to go out and get a FRER test. My logic was that if this test (being less sensitive) came up positive I would be convinced I was pregnant. I literally screamed with joy when the FRER was nice and dark and appeared in less than a minute!

Later today I went and had a blood test. Just got a call from doctor and said there is no HCG in my system!!!!! Even she was confused considering I did 2 different tests (all done correctly).

So that is my story. I have had the worst year after losing my a baby and feel like this is a cruel joke.

not to get your hopes up hun...but there have been so many people that have done a test got a positive then had bloods and got a negative..but then later was still pregnant!!

please can you test again by the end of the week just to be sure?

Think cysts, pcos, and things like that can give positives have you been cleared for those type of things? Good luck though hope you actually are pregnant! Sorry for your loss xx

21rach, I've never heard of cysts causing positive tests. Is this common? I haven't been scanned since before o so it could be corpus luteum cyst...just annoying there is no hcg in system!

if af doesnt show hun, test by the end of the week. if there was no hcg in your system ,you wouldnt of got a positive on your test so thats incorrect#

but I agree that it could be a false negative... I have heard of that before too with blood and Urine tests.

It's all over the Internet saying cysts can give extremely faint positives :/ not sure if true or not. Just because I think that's what gave me 7 last month I wasn't pregnant yet many people agreed tests showed I was, I have harmless cysts xx

this really sucks hun - but your blood test should of showed hcg of < 2.0 which is natural in all women not nothing at all!! and you would not be getting positives if there was nothing in your system. What day in your cycle are you?

If nothing has happened in a week ask for another blood test but ask for a progesterone and HCG blood test.

aww im so soory for your loss my heart goes out to you hunni,, never give up, cant you get the doctor to do another test, and keep pestering them about it theres something suspect there by sounds of it if you keep getting pos tests and i think you shud keep pushing ya doctor to get down to the bottom of it,,, best of luck and i will keep my fingers croxxed for you

Thanks so much everyone. After absorbing the shock I remembered my doctor said she would request progesterone levels from my blood sample and I should call the next day. She said this will indicate if ovulation occurred. Well I'm on cd 30, Af is suppose to come today but I still have high temps so I doubt it will. She said this late in my cycle the level should be low if I really did ovulate 2 weeks ago. What number should I expect if I AM pregnant?? What should I expect if AF is just around the corner?

Mummy-Mac, sorry when I said no HCG at all I meant "less than 5" which apparently is a non pregnant state...so to me, it's as good as zero! So frustrating!

Keep your chin up hun! I had a negative result with my blood test too and I WAS pregnant with my son, but I didn't get a positive test at all until I was around 10 weeks!

OMG really??? That gives me some hope. Despite the blood test I'm still not convinced and find it hard to believe I'm getting BFPs for no reason. Did your doctor give you any explanation about why you weren't getting positive blood tests. I didn't think this would be possible in this day and age

Nope he didn't explain anything, just turned around and said "There's no way you are pregnant" and told me those blood tests are never wrong.. Even my OH didn't believe me as he thought there was no way those tests could be wrong. That made it really tough as I felt so alone, like I was maybe going crazy and I was so far away from my friends and family. Would do it all over again in a heartbeat though for my little man.

I really hope you get answers soon though, it's really no fun waiting around and being left in the clutches of "what ifs.. " etc. If you need to chat/rant anytime, lemme' know xx
