My friend had a little boy 2 weeks ago and is breast feeding him. Hes always been a sleepy baby and she woke him for feeds for the first few days. When i was talking to her she said how she was going to make him wait an extra hour between feeds during the day as she said him screaming for food was getting embarrasing. So she has started her new routine and said it is going great, hes a good sleeper during the night and feeds every 5 hours so hasnt changed his routine for the night feeds.

I was wondering as I have a 4 week old formula fed boy who weighs 11lb, who wants feeding every 3 hours, including the nights (which i thought was normal) shal i try and hold him off an hour aswell to try and get him to feed every 4 hours? And would this routine kick in during the night aswell once it was established?

And when do babies tend to drop a bottle?

Cheers in advance x

Hi Hun, I would feed your little 4 week old on demand. All the babies are different and you should not compare them. My Carmen was also very sleepy baby and I was advised to feed her every 3 hour and thats what I did, I also woke her up at night. They will drop a bottle when they ready. Trust me babies follow their own little routine and you just go with it : )

Hmm, I suspect your friends LO will start to demand feeds more frequent than every 5 hours once he gets past his sleepy stage!
We still feed every 3 hours although she has started to show signs of moving towards 4 hours now she is draining 6oz each time. She's 3 months old. At 4 weeks old, we fed on demand - but it fell into the every 3 hours around that time anyway.

Yep, they're too young to try to structure their feeds just yet. We fed on demand for about 12 weeks then started to establish a routine. x
