Since birth jess has been really difficult feeding, in hospital she wouldn't feed in the normal position at all, midwifes all tried and they tried holding her away from them too but it was a long and difficult fight every feed, one day h fed her in the cot and the feeding specialist was not happy with this, I was so worried that she wasn't taking anything that it worked so I carried on, when we got out of hospital we tried to feed normally, still refused, she would cry, arms and legs going everywhere, arching her back and her head shaking, we resorted to feeding her on her changing mat, eventually she accepted (with a fight) the normal feeding position, it seemed to work for a while then she became fussy again, we took to feeding her ontop of a support pillow which she will take a good feed from, however she does wriggle alot and has a preferance having her head at the side and this means there is alot of leaking, we've tried getting her to drink with her head straight but she just won't have it

Whenever we go out she is alseep and have only fed her out once and she was fine without the pillow. This was until Thursday when I had to feed her in a pub and she was not happy, she cried, head, arms and legs everywhere, I
tried positioning her as if she was on the pillow as much as I could but it just wasn't working, I was so embarassed as it must have looked like I didn't know how to feed her. In the end I gave up as she wasn't having any of it and went home to feed her :-(

I've obviously made a rod for my own back from using the support pillow and have tried all ways I can to get her to feed normally what do I do ???

That does sound frustrating!!

My boy eats on a nursing pillow. He lays flat on his back with his feet on my stomach. Essentially if he was standing up we would be nose to nose but he's laying down in that position. My sister fed her twins in bouncy chairs only. I don't think I matters how you feed as long as it's getting done. I'd try a nursing pillow or the bed. Maybe propped right up or lying flat?

If nothing else know your not alone.

We have been having trouble feeding our lo since she has started teething. She seems to want to turn away from us and squirms a lot in our arms. We found that if we put her in her chair (Fisher Price Infant to Toddler Rocker) she is semi reclined in it and she will feed easily. It may be worth trying, that way her head is still higher than her tummy which makes it easier for them to digest.

i tuck trystin next to me in my recliner so he's kind sitting up and feed him that way. he gets less gas and doesn't droll it out as much. i tried laying him down in my arms but he cries alot that way.

have you tried laying LO up on your chest like you would when you would rock them to sleep and tilt the bottle in their mouth?

I use a pillow but this is no good when out in a restarant/park ect, this is my problem, she is soo wriggly even on that the bottle and the milk goes everywhere :-/

I either feed so they are leaning back onto my chest so facing outwards, then I hold the bottle round in front of them if out, or at home, they lie on the floor, often with nothing lifting their head, but I try to put a cushion under their head now as a HV commented about it. My theory was that they used to lie flat to BF (and at one stage they would only feed if we both were lying down as went on nursing strike, which was one reason we moved to bottles) so them lying on the floor is no different really

Have you tried taking her to a cranial osteopathist (sp?) Its possible that she has a sore neck or something that makes it uncomfortable to feed.
A friend of mine was having the same issue - not as bad- with her LO and within three weeks he was feeding normally.
I don;t really understand too much about it, but it might be worth looking into.
xx

I feed him on his pushchair when we'r out tilted up 1 level. Omar is the same since he was tiny, & we also feed him on a pillow at home. Using the pushchair tilted up is the easiest way to feed him when we'r out xx

Nolan (until just 2 weeks ago) would not let me cuddle him or hold him while he ate. At home, we would use the bouncy chair or the boppy pillow. But when we were out I would feed him in his infant car seat and he takes the bottle great. I know some people say not to, but it works for us!

Just to add... I know how you feel about feeling like people look at you like you cannot feed your own baby! Nolan would rotate in my arms to the point where he was stretch out head on my chest and legs just dangling... I am sure we looked quite silly.
