i dont know if there the right things and im having second thoughts . . .

got him a glow worm for bedtime
2 big chunky cars from mothercare to push about
a leapfrog interactive book
a shape sorter with a little hammer thing from ELC
and a baby einstien dvd

all in all i spent £40 moneys tight and we canot afford anymore,

i wanted to get him a trike so badly,i saw the one i wanted in ELC today and nearly cried because i felt so shitty that i cant affod it

Hes only 1 but i see all these other mums on here who spend a fortune and i just cant do that.

Thought i post this here aswell as GS to see what you all think about this and buying alot for 1st birthdays?

Aw £40s fine, i'm sure he'll get loads off other people as well. They sound nice pressies and as for the trike, i wouldn't worry, xmas isn't that long away and its started to get cooler now so he may not of got much use out of it for a while anyway. Don't beat yourself up hun xxx

I know exactly how u feel hun I still havent bought my LOs presents yet, I have to wait a couple weeks till I have more money, my friend was boasting that she spent like 300 on her LO which I think is crazy and really not something I could afford xx

I think that all sounds fab!

And I don't think there's any point really in spending a lot of first birthday presents - unless it's more for your pleasure than LOs! I'll bet Sam will be happier ripping and eating the wrapping paper than playing with new toys I get!

dont be worrying hun..im in the same boat for christmas and 1st birthday (25days later) unless we win the lotto before then.

what u hav got him sounds lovely and it sounds like loads, think of the things he will get off other people im sure he will be one spoilt little boy and very happy too. xxxx :hugs:

My Lo didn't even care about any of his gifts he liked the paper!! U have spent plenty on him he will love it !! X

sounds about like what Id spend but we use $$ so not sure how much that really is  but Zander doesnt have a trike yet and he will probably get one for christmas since we really cant afford a nice one for his birthday which is in about 2 months! I dont think Zander could have used a trike at 1 he will be 2 and I think he is now the perfect age to get one :) my boys dont get as much on their birthdays since christmas is so close and that would be to much IMO

I think thats great what youve got! We only spent that too and by choice cos to be honest she was more interested in gift bags and paper! Oh and a £3 baby doll. Dont worry he will have an awesome day!! xxxx

He wont care.

I bet he will play with the boxes and paper anyway :)

V xxx

Also at one our LO could only JUST use her little sit on car so a trike might have been a waste. We are getting her one for christmas and she'll be 2 1/2! xxx

At that age they don't know, they are excited unwrapping etc they dont really care what the presents actually are that much! I'm not buying much for LO's first christmas for exactly this reason. Plus as PP said its coming winter LO wouldn't get much use out of a trike in the cold anyway i wouldn't imagine. :)

Dont worry :flower: he wont really know about it.Just a lovely happy day is needed, with lots of love and laughter, making memories,is whats important not objects. Im sure you will have a lovely day x

I think £40 is plenty for a birthday,we only spend around that much and its not because we cant afford more,I think thats a good amount for a child and dont see the point in spending more just for the sake of it.Ive not spent much more than that on my 16 month old for christmas,he doesnt know or care how much things cost anyway:haha:
You have a lovely list of pressies,im sure he will love them.Whats more, believe me,by the time hes 3 or 4 you will have so many toys and stuff you wont know where to put it all,so take your time building up his stash:haha:

We spent about that for El's 1st and 2nd as well as Xmas. I just don't see the point of spending lots of money when a, they don't understand the concept of money, b, we can't afford and c,they don't need it - you are all he needs xxx

That sounds very lovely!

Dont worry hun presents are not the important part!!!

Having you there will mean more them gifts that is just things!!!

Im sure hell have a great party

Don't beat yourself up hun, what you've got him sounds great......as someone else said he'll be more interested in the empty boxes!! xx

If your LO is anything like mine all he will be interested in is the paper and the box's.

My mum did get her a tryke and she has probably been in it 5 times at the most (when it was really sunny) and she did not seem that bothered about it.

As someone has already said the weather is turning now so your LO wont get to use it for a while anyway. Just put any pennies he gets for his birthday and xmas to one side and get him one in the jan sales. xx

Doont beat yourself up about the price of things, LO's dont know how much things cost, they just enjoy playing with new things. x

he will definetly love the paper and boxes, and i know our familys will spil him rotton!

Love and kisses are far more important and i know having everyone there who he loves giving his lots of fuss and some cake will be perfect for him :haha:

i just feel abit inadiquate when i see other mums spending so much money :(

Dont feel inadequate!!! :hugs: i am not buying my lo much for his birthday out of choice.More important things hun x god now i sound mean :haha: oh well...

I don't think I even got Imogen a first birthday present. I certainly didn't get her a second one, I couldn't find anything I liked. In the end I got her some books the next day and I'm keeping an eye out for a trampoline on eBay for her. She didn't notice ;)
