Fingernails help please

OK so as the title says - harry's nails are like really sharp and loves to scratch his face (well not sure that he loves to but he does and often). I have tried clipping them/filing them and even biting them when he is asleep - but he pulls his fingers away. Am really frightened about any accidents. I have put mitts on him - is this the only option? xxxx

I just use little baby scissors to cut DS nails while he naps. They're curved at the top to help minimise the risk of accidents. I wait until he's been sleeping about 15-20 minutes, so he's in a deeper sleep, which lessens the amount that he moves his hands. I hold his hand firmly, and do it as quickly and as carefully as possible. Scratch mitts are really useful too, when you've not cut them for a couple of days. x

Sorry, but no other suggestions hun. I wait until Adrian is properly in a deep sleep and then i take the clippers to him!
He doesn't do it as much now but still occasionally wakes up with scratches on his face...
The sleep suits with built in scratch mitts are good. The ends just fold over the hands. We cant use them anymore as adrian sucks his thumb, the sleeves would be soaked up to the elbow by morning!

When my LO was tiny, I accidently drew blood with the nail clippers, so I daren't use them again. My HV suggested using a nail file, which I didn't think would work but it does, as it softens the nails and makes them less likely to cause damage.

I actually had to start putting Disney on the tv to distract him, and I still do it to this day.

Tommee tippee do really good nail clippers and I find them fab! I was really nervous about cutting her nails as well but they grow so fast I had to! I really rate these though

I use little nail scissors and sing the 'tommy thumb' song as i do each finger. When he was very little he did protest but I just held him firmly and got on with it. At 7 months he know watches me doing it like its the most intersesting thing in the world!

Have you tried doing one side while bfing LO? I either do this, or do it when she's asleep.

I bite my DD nails while she's feeding. She's too obsessed with my boob to care!

This is gonna sound funny, but if nothing else has worked for you... My wife uses a nail "buffer" which smooths out the whole nail, and if she uses it on the tip of the fingernail, it seems pretty rounded out and is not sharp at all. Maybe you should get one of these and try it on your LO!
