Hello!

I just wanted to introduce myself. i'm nearly 5 weeks pregnant. it's our first bfp so we still can't quite believe it. i'm so nervous though, people say most first babies miscarry. i run to the loo every time i feel something but it's just cm. i had implantation spotting for 5 days from 7dpo and have a slight dark yellow discharge now. i don't know if i should be worried about that.

i have no pregnancy symptoms! i am usually bloated anyway and am extra bloated at the moment, so much i'm not hungry but will force myself to eat lunch.

i normally exercise but am really scared to do situps or anything too physical.

what advise can people give me in these scary weeks? fingers and toes crossed we get through the 1st trimester safely. i'm just looking at each hurdle at a time and hoping for the best.

Em

Hi! It's understandable that you're worried but whoever told you that most first babies miscarry is incredibly misinformed. What a thing to say! It's perfectly safe to exercise during the first trimester although you probably shouldn't exert yourself too much. All you can really do is eat right, rest when you can and take care of yourself. Good luck! :hugs:

Most first babies do not miscarry. My doctors said 1/3 will result in miscarriage at some point. This is for a number of reasons. Remember that miscarriages happen for a reason. If the embryo isn't developing as it should, the cells are programmed to die. If it could somehow continue to develop then the baby would be extremely sick, deformed, or otherwise and it would be unlikely that the child would be able to live outside of the womb. Of course I would be upset if I miscarried, but it would be for a scientific reason that we would ultimately benefit from since it clears out the womb for another round that could work out better. Other women just don't take care of themselves and the baby suffers for it. Try not to think about it too much. Send the bean good ju ju!

As for exercises, I attend physical therapy multiple times each week. We are working on abdominal exercises because I have a weak back after spine surgery. I do abdominal holds (basically tense up the abdominal muscles while laying flat on your back) instead of crunches. They are easier on the back muscles. By doing exercises like this early and often you will do yourself a huge favor by alleviating some back pain in later months.

What kissel says, I agree 100%!

This is my first too, and I'm worried but a wise word of advice for all women even if they had 10 babies is to take it easy and enjoy the pregnancy. You want to look back at this time as a happy one and not as a stressful.

All the worrying will not help the baby in any way so try to relax and be in contact with a good doc. :)

Many congrats!

Ok thank you all so much! i feel much more reassured. i am going light on the exercise and hope to talk to one of the trainers at the gym to establish what's safe and what's not. Come thursday we'll be 5 weeks and we're telling my parents over skype as they live in england! i'm looking forward to having some pregnancy symptoms so i feel 'more pregnant'!

can i ask, how did you all get these timelines in your signatures? i really want one they are so cute!:)

The tickers are from sites like https://www.countdownmypregnancy.com/tickers/ if you click on them it takes you directly on the sites they come from :)

When you enter all the correct data it takes you to a form where you can copy the code for your signature!

Hi I just got my bfp this morning! Its quite feint but a line is a line, right?

Can I join you ladies during this scary time?

This was our second month trying and we used SMEP. Baby is very much planned but I'm still in shock and a bit scared. Is that normal?

Hi ladies, congratulations on your bfps!
It's totally normal to be worried, but the more you can relax the better.
Don't worry about a lack of symptoms either, some women have loads, some have none, for me I had incredibly bad nausea from week 4-7 and it has now completely gone, apparently this is quite normal, so again try not to worry, and enjoy it!
However i've not stopped worrying since I got my bfp!!! Xx

I saw this thread and thought - yup that's me! You lovely girls make me feel less alone. Got my first :bfp: a week ago today. Initially I was relieved and excited but now I'm so scared of m/c. The stats seem so against me . I don't know if it's just my hormones but I feel really down. I'm paranoid when my boobs are less sore etc and like some of you I live in fear everytime I go to the loo! I see a lot of m/c in my line of work so I feel I can't escape the reminder that it could happen. I know if you m/c it happens for a reason but I feel so lost just now.

I hope all of you have sticky beans!!

Yup, same here! Virtual panic attack every time I need to wipe! I'm also really unsure what to do with exercise, so let us know what your trainer tells you, okay? They say the m/c risk goes down drastically with every week:

So, I'm just holding my breath until I get my first scan at about 9 weeks, and trying to stay happy and relaxed until then. As others have said, worrying won't do a darn thing (well, unless you were planning on taking up skydiving and worrying prevents that or other very high risk activities), so we might as well stay positive and enjoy our pregnancies!

Congrats to us!!!
:wohoo:

I'm right there with you ladies, this time is terrifying. My first scan is on the 31st and I go from being excited to terrified!

I just read this article and it is really interesting, hope it takes some of your worries away :)

Great article. Thanks, Lily!

That's such a lovely article. Thanks loads. My personal trainer is getting me to do gentle exercises, no abdo crunches etc. Doing a lot of pelvic tilt work and cross training. Not doing loads of running or high impact stuff. When I get a bit further on he'll put a heart monitor on me to make sure I don't overdo anything. Apparently you can carry on with your normal workout but I'm so scared of loosing this wee bean I'm keeping it pretty gentle. I told my boss today so that she's aware of how scared I am and she was LOVELY about it. It's made me less worried as at least someone at work is aware of my fears and why I'm quiet!

Just popped in from third trimester forum, try not to worry about it, I spent the whole of first trimester worrying and still do now. As for the wanting to feel some symptoms, I was like this and then I woke up when I was 6 weeks and felt awful all day every day until 17 weeks and even now I still feel sick a lot!

Thanks loads for your kind words and reassurance - best of luck for your birth and I can't wait to be at your stage! Who'd of thought this process would be so stressful!

Really nervous? Yeah. Actually, add a few more "really"s to that for me.

I had an mc last year with our firts BFP, so I'm also worried. But its like everyone said, its a natural process that occurs if it does. We just need to TRY to stay relaxed and take care, which I know is easier said than done, but the only thing I can control is me and how I take care of me.

I'm sure we'll all be fine so long as we all take care of ourselves and our growing bumps :)

Good i'm glad i'm not the only one! Congratulations Poppy on your bfp that’s so exciting! My hubby didn’t believe me at first. Took another test 2 days later but he said he wanted to hear it from the doctors mouth haha! We went last Friday and I get my blood results tomorrow and then telling my parents on skype as they are in England and I’m in Australia. So unbelievably excited!

I am really trying to worry less and it’s really great to be able to connect with you all who have been through it before or are at a similar stage in the pregnancy to me.

I have definitely noticed I’m peeing more. Woke up at 1am desperate for the loo and I didn’t have much to drink before bed. Also I’m more bloated and constipated then normal and felt queasy yesterday evening but don’t know if that was a pregnancy symptom or just my sluggish digestive system lol!

The doctor gave me a few numbers to call at the hospital to organize my scan but every time I call it goes to voice mail and the message says they may take 5 days to get back to me??? Can I ask when everyone is having their first scan? How many weeks along will you be?
