Hello everyone,
Well I've bit the bullet and made my first doctors appt.
We have been ttc for well over 12 months now and not even a glimpse of a bfp :( and I just have that feeling something isnt right.

Can anyone tell me what I can expect will happen in my first visit.
I'm very nervous :/

Any advice would be nice.

Baby Dust to all!!
xo

Hey :) I know exactly what you are a going through!

I had that same feeling of something not being right as soon as I went off BC. My dr would not listen to my concerns at 6 months of TTC, so I took myself off to another dr who sent me for blood tests and an internal ultrasound. Through these I was confirmed to have PCOS. I was then referred straight onto an OBGYN who I have been seeing since June 2012. He has done a variety of things to help get me ovulating.

Everyone's situation is different, but to be able to take steps forward, you and the dr need to know as much info as you can about your situation. I found recording everything in regards to my cycles (temps, length, cm) was good in giving my drs as much info as I could.

Best advice I have is, be totally honest with the dr, mention EVERYTHING and have someone there for support. It can be scary, but it is also exciting to know that you will hopefully get some answers that will hopefully get you your BFP that bit faster when you know what you are dealing with :)

All the best :hugs:

Hi, when I went to my GP he arranged a scan to check for PCOS due to my symptoms while waiting for referral to fertility specialist. Ill copy what I wrote in another post about it:

my 1st appointment with fertility specialist was spring/summer 2012 and ive just been prescribed clomid again but a higher dose

my GP thought possible PCOS due to long, irregular cycles so had Transvaginal scan (which ruled out PCOS) and DH had SA. We done these whilst waiting for FS appointment.

Had FS appointment and he said do another TV scan as had been a while since the last one and 'day 21' bloods but do it a week before I thought i would get AF (not actually day 21 due to long cycles this wouldnt show anything for me) so judged it by when my boobs started hurting as always get this 7 days before, DH had to do another SA.

Went back to FS who said day 21 bloods showed ovulation but borderline. Had to do it again but do it on days 21,28 and 35 and keep going til got AF, got AF day 42. Then had to do blood test on day 3.

DH was told to do 2 more SA's 2 months apart.

He said my 2nd scan showed a cyst which could be a sign of endometriosis and as I have long, heavy and very painful periods I also suspected this. For this reason he booked me in for a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and hsg in one under general anaesthetic rather than doing hsg and hysteroscopy as seperate appointments.

I had this done on 4th Jan this year and everything was fine to my suprise, no pcos, endo, cysts or anything.

Had follow up appointment on 25th Jan and last lot of 21 day bloods showed ovulation and day 3 bloods were normal. Last 2 SA's were ok, altogether with the 4 SA's his count ranged from 13-84 million, morphology a bit low on one but high on the others so overall fine

FS concluded I just have long cycles and rarely ovulate which is a relief but at the same time frustrating!

I am now on first cycle of 100mg clomid and scan today showed 3 follicles so hopefully should ovualte in next day or 2 according to FS

Hope this helps xx

My first appointment for fertility related issues ended with an ultra sound because "something wasn't right" with my uterus, it was incredibly swollen. After they found and removed a cyst, my next appt, which I now consider my first fertility appointment, we talked about what had been going on the previous year, the dr was mainly concerned if I was doing OPKs, which I had, but NEVER once did it become positive.

Based on that he prescribed me Provera to start a new cycle, as I hadn't had one in months, and then he prescribed Clomid and we discussed whether or not I wanted to do monitored cycles or unmonitored cycles. In the beginning I did unmonitored but nothing ever happened, so when I went back 3 months later I decided to do monitored cycles, which now at least I know if the medication is working, I know whether or not I ovulated etc. Hope this helps!

Wow thanks everyone for your replies, this really does put my mind at ease and help with the fact I am not the only one going through this.
This is really such a great support group.

A litte more info on me:
Been trying since Oct 2011. I have a really regular cycles usually 26-27 days (one month I was two weeks late with negative preg tests- only once in my 16 years of cycles) but the reason I feel something is definitely wrong is the last 12 months I've noticed little to no CM each month which makes me feel like I don't ovulate. I do get positive OPK's though.
Our bodies are funny things.
My husband will be getting a SA as well :)
I also have white coat syndrome, used to get nervous just going to get my pill prescription filled lol

I will post how I go next week.

Thanks again everyone for your detailed replies ... I sincerely hope you all get your BFP's soon..

Hi, I know how you feel about white coat sydrome, its just nerve racking when you don't know whats going to happen each time. Honestly though I worried before every appointment and was nervous but it was all for no reason! Every appointment was fine and not bad like I thought it was going to be, I would research every test I had for results and each one of mine came back fine apart from regular ovulation. However, I dreaded the worst every time! I should have been more positive but now I've done it all Im feel so much better and you will too, thats what kept me going, every appointment I was 1 step closer and felt better about it all

Wishing you lots and lots of luck xxx

Hi! I was nervous too when I went to my first appointment. I have been working with my OBGYN. I started TTC July 2011 and went to see my OBGYN in August 2012. At that first appointment we did a pap-smear (normal) did bloodwork (all results normal) then she had me come back the following month to do a HSG dye test (tubes are clear/normal). Back in August DH went to see his doctor as well and he had a physical (normal) and ultrasound (normal) SA (Normal). After my HSG and all results were coming back normal my doctor told me to come back in so we could discuss our next steps (fertility meds). This was back in Sept and I was so stressed and drained from TTC so DH and I decided to take a break from TTC from Oct-Dec. It's helped a lot. Then in Dec we went back to see my doctor and she said we would try a few months on Clomid then discuss moving on to IUI. At this point she diagnosed me with female 'Unexplained Infertility' but I am very hopeful. We are currently on our third round of Clomid but in the process of switching to a more experienced doctor.

Try not to be nervous! I'm sure you will be slightly relieved to be working towards finding some answers and next steps to get you closer to seeing that BFP. Best of luck to you and keep us updated!

Please do post how everything goes! I'm very similar to you. 26-28 day cycles, ALWAYS get a positive opk on CD 14-16. I feel twinges in my abdomen around that time. The only thing ovulation related that I don't notice is EWCM. I have CM, pretty good amounts sometime, (tmi!) but I've never noticed th EW kind that people describe. I've used preseed for 8 months of our year ttc. So I question ovulation too. I was supposed to go for CD 21 tests at the beginning if feb but I had a track meet that day!! So I'll have to try again.

Hi everyone,
Went to the doctor this afternoon and he did a pap smear on the spot and is sending me off for some "fertility check" blood tests next week and a pelvic ultrasound.
If these tests show back nothing he will send me off to a fertility specialist for further testing. Because I went to him originally for my pre blood tests before ttc he was happy to help as much as possible and didnt try and fob me off which I was worried about.
One thing he did say during my pap smear is sorry tmi but that I had a high amount of discharge .. has anyone heard this before?
Will keep you all updated.

Hey again everyone, turns out my husband has a very inflamed thyroid.... will no more in a few days. Turns out something like this can also affect fertility. Anyone heard anything similar?

All my blood work / ultrasounds came back ok I have some normal cysts which were apparently normal . Hubby looks as though his thyroid needs cutting out :( not good news there. So that looks like it may be our issue. We have a referral for a fertility specialist which ill book once hubby gets theall clear .... I have 4 follicles on my right and 7 on left . Is this good ? My progesterone at 19 days was 31 nmol. Is that good ? Lol sorry so new to all this .... any advice would be much appreciated :)
