Hello Ladies,

I am still a bit shocked and somewhat in disbelief! I went to the Dr a couple of months ago to have another scan that revealed PCOS. I ask to be referred and they agreed. I thought I was being referred to an endocrinologist - no one told me any different.

I had my apointment today and wondered why everyone was with their partners in the waiting room but me, and when I was called in was informed I had actually been referred to a fertility specialist and that my GP should have told me to bring me OH, as he would need to have a semen analysis. She was asked me all these questions, how long weve been trying etc. She did an internal, which was great having started my period yesterday. She said all was ok, and gave me a form and pot for OH to have fun with.

She then said as I was a new "case" she would go and speak to the head consultant, and go from there. She came back in and said I would need 5, 8 and 21 day bloods and has given me an appointment for an HSG. I have been given another appointment to go back in 3 months time.

Is this the usual course of action? I am a bit scared of this HSG thing. I thought I was going to be speaking to someone about the PCOS, get given some pills and everything would be fine.

Feel a bit silly for being a wuss, but I am currently out of a job (was being bullied at my last one so gave it up) and all of these appointments would go down well with whoever will next want to employ me, and all of this today has made me feel like nothing works in me and has made me think things are a lot more serious than anyone has told me before. (I guess it didnt help that when I told OH, he said "why are they testing me, its you that has the problem", which I know he didnt mean but really upset me)

What are they likely to do after this?

Thank you for listening to me whine, just a bit taken back by it all :nope:

I'm in the U.S.. so its a little different here. It's really hard to say what will happen next. SA is really important, so it's good you're having it done. If you've never had one before, it very well could be an issue with him. It's a bit arrogant to assume it couldnt be, isnt it? Hopefully he will be a little more sensitive next time. :hugs:

Don't worry about the HSG--easier said than done right? I have one in two days but have had a few friends on here be great and honest with me about the whole thing so I'm much more calm now! That is a HUGE step so glad they booked you for one. So those two major hurdles out of the way, assuming everything is fine--they may give you clomid or something to increase your chances and help you ovulate if you don't already.

Good luck hun and lots of :hugs:

This is the EXACT same ting that happened to me. My letter was addressed to ME and an appointment has been made for YOU etc. I didnt know what to expect so didnt think Id need my OH but she said I cant refer you till Ive met your husband! He had already been sent to do a SA by the GP but they wanted a few so ur OH will prob need to do this in the meantime. This was September, and when I recieved the FU app, it wasnt till the end of MARCH! I was gutted at what I felt was their mistake. Luckily I kept calling the appointment hotline and got a cancellation for the beginning if January, so Id suggest you try that.

When I got sent away I had bloods done and a swab. Once we were called back they referred us straight away, and we had our first appointment at the fertility clininc within 3 weeks of seeing the FS at the hospital. It is all very daunting and hard to believe, especially as things happened so quickly for us we didnt really have a chance to get our heads round it. Just stay relaxed and calm and go with it that would be my advice. Good luck with it all hun feel free to ask any more questions x x x x
