Feeling a tad emotional.
Anabella was far too big for her Moses Basket. Her head touched the top and her feet the bottom. She would grab hold of the basket with both hands. But she loved it in there.
We tried putting her in the cot on new years day, but she wouldn't settle. She cried and cried and cried and in the end despite trying to calm her, we put her back in the basket where she has been ever since.
I love having her next to me though. Her little face looking at me in the morning.
But tonight we decided to give the cot another go as seriously there is no more room in her basket.
So we made the cot all snug, put her teddy's against the bars and bought her a cot wedge so she can continue to sleep on an incline, which is what she is used too.
We put her down at 7.45pm and she was in her element. She was playing with her toys, kicking her legs, squealing in delight, playing with the mobile activity centre and generally having a ball. I thought she was never going to sleep.
Then suddenly at around 8.50pm it went quiet. She lay still (we were watching on the video monitor we have). She was asleep!! She took herself from wide awake, playing and happy to fast asleep. No help to settle from me or husband, nothing. No crying, whinging or moaning.
It is now 11pm, she has stirred a few times and woken once. No crying, just put herself back to sleep. OK, the night is still young and there is still time for meltdowns but so far, so good.
I am feeling happy, but so sad that this chapter of her staying in our room is over, so proper mixed emotions. I will miss waking up next to her in the morning but I am also glad she has taken to the cot and can self settle.
