I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant and found out about it around week 7. I thought the first prenatal appointment would be around week 8? but my OB wants to see me until week 12!?! Is it me freaking out because I think its really far along or is it a normal time to get checked?:dohh::growlmad:

I thought most first appointments were wen u r 8 weeks. idk tho it varies! I had my first one 2day & im only 6 weeks 1 day! but I got 2 see the little heart beating:) u should try 2 make it sooner!

I think you should try to get it sooner. My first 1 isn't for another 3 weeks :nope: and I'll be 8 weeks by then. I wish i could get mine sooner. But I think 12 weeks is a long time to wait!!! Did they say that is normal?

My first appt is at 8 ish weeks but no scan til 12+3. I thought they'd have wanted to see me earlier to make sure I'm getting enough folic acid but I am anyway so ...

My first is when Im 6 weeks (2/10/15) seems forever away but my experience has been far from traditional so I guess you cant compare yourself to me. I dont see an OB/GYN, my 6week is with my fertility specialist because I conceived with IVF.

I've been hearing alot of people having to wait until 12 weeks.

I'm in UK and first MW appointment is at 8 weeks, but it's all paperwork - not checks at all (unless you ask for standard blood checks (HIV, rubella immunity etc)). Our first scan is at 12 weeks.

I am not sure what the normal is, mine had me in at 8wks and did a scan. They also did one at 5wks but I was there for ms and they just did it to do it i guess. I don't think the first one was normal to do. I am also high risk so that can factor 8 too. I'll see the doctors a lot more.

If you feel it's really late call and see if you can get an 8 wk check in. They should keep the 12wk as well. Hope everything goes smoothly!

12 weeks is normal here in Canada. I've waited til then for all my kids, it's fine. Here you only go in sooner if there's a problem. There's no reason to see ob before 12 in my opinion, especially since I saw my gp to confirm pregnancies.

mine was 9 weeks then a scan at 12 weeks and 2 days... but it turned out I was 13 weeks exactly.... they basically weigh you check your wee do some bloods and fill out your notes in the uk. it does seem a little later but you should be fine.. although I understand its annoying waiting to get the ball rolling x

I know I will try to get it sooner. they didn't really say if it was normal, they just said "see you around week 12".

I have done 3 pregnancies and each one I have waited until week 12 to see my ob. Here, that's standard. There's never been an issue because of it. It's not anything to panic about and just because other countries or cities go earlier doesn't mean you're missing something.
Obs here won't check for hb before 10 weeks. That's usually all they do at the first apt anyway, at least here. There's blood work and occasionally a pap if you haven't had one in awhile. They'll order a dating scan if you have no idea when your last period was. They'll usually see you early if there's a reason to like something in a past pregnancy, bleeding etc.
Seems like a wait yes, but honestly I don't think there's much to be done before 12 weeks..

I have to agree the longer you do wait the more you will know and see. Before 12 weeks there is not much there the scans are better at 12 weeks and you will worry less. As for the tests they do before. There quite basic standard tests. It will come round quick and it will feel like less of a drag between then and your next scan. Xx

I have my first appointment next week, when I'll be 6 weeks exactly. I won't get an ultrasound though, just all of the blood work. I really was hoping to get to hear the heartbeat so I could relax a little, but I just have to learn to have more patience and faith. The wait is so difficult though, hang in there!

I saw my doctor when I was 8 weeks + 5 days. All they did was have me take a pee test and then he just checked my uterus. I saw the nurses/midwife when I was 12 weeks and they did blood work, talked to me, and I heard the heartbeat :). According to my midwife, insurance won't cover ultrasounds until 16-20 weeks unless there is an issue. I found that to be weird because most people I know go around 12 weeks for an ultrasound. I have an appoint on monday, where I'll be almost 14 weeks, so hopefully I can get them to do a scan! I had some pains yesterday so I might mention that to my doctor. Good luck! :)
