First referal - what to expect?

Hey all,

New to this part, Been trying for just over a year now. OH has low counts and low motality, it varies upon each test!

Just waiting for a referal letter for our first NHS paid consultation - what happens now?

I'm in Nottingham so expecting to get a choice between the two clinics here? Also, if we want to try the ICI option before IVF is this discussed at the next stage?

I'm sure this has been asked many times before but very grateful for any replies!

Hi Aimz,

I'm guessing they will want to check you out aswell as your OH. Our first referral started with weight check, blood tests to check our hormone levels & check I was ovulating etc. and to check my immunity to Rubella.

You may be sent for a transvaginal scan & then perhaps a hysterosalpingogram to check your tubes are open.
If all is well with you, then I would expect them to try IUI first, 'cos they can sort OH's sperm into a good pile & a bad pile & only send the good ones in IYKWIM!

At some point you may need anotherblood test to check you are clear of Hepatitis & hiv (this is a legal thing & may only apply to IVF, I don't know)

The people I saw were really nice all the way through, sometimes appointments felt a bit rushed, so go prepared with any questions you may have written down.

Had blood tests already so guess i've got to go through those again!!!

Found out today first apt is on 9th Jan at Nurture. How long from your first ap can you expect to have anything actually done IUIwise?

first appt doesn't matter, its your cycle start. Especially if they are going to hyperovulate you with Clomid. so what CD are you?

Hmmm well I got my last post wrong - its not nurture its with fertility an gynocology...So do they do more tests before getting any treatments? They are licesned to do IUI but IVF needs to go elsewhere.

Currently around cd14 I think - periods have been a little all over the place the last few months but settled down the last two so fingers crossed this one is on time too in around 2 weeks! x

First appointment is family history, height, weight
Bookin in for bloods for 2 and 21 day, mens SA again maybe.
i had to book in for a vaginal ultrasound scan, which was fine
you may have 1 appointment or 3, just depends on your clinic as its all about investiagation first before options are looked at.
We went for our first in october and are back in December to go over results and look at next steps. Dont know what weight you are but you are likely to have to have a bmi under 30 to have any treatment,

im bang in the middle for bmi - 5"6 about 9.10 stone so that wont be an issue.

Just a bit concerned about appointments and work but this is definately a priority so even if I need to take it off at holiday!

What do you think the next steps will be flossy? i'm not sure if my OH results are good enough for ici.
