My daughter is 10 months old (not walking yet, just standing) and it has just occurred to me that I have no idea when I'm supposed to get her first pair of shoes!!

I'm guessing it's when she starts walking?? What age did you get your babies first shoes and where did you get them from? I'd assume Clark's, but everything they have at the moment is so ugly I'm hoping to find some suggestions of other places to try!

They only really need them when they are walking outside, my 15 month old still hasn't worn shoes yet, I always get DS1's from clarkes, they are boring but I like them to be measured and fitted properly.

I got Amys 2 weeks ago from Clarks, she isnt walking yet but she is cruising along the sofa and anywhere else she can grab.

My oldest was walking unaided at 8 months but didn't get shoes til 12 months because you couldn't get proper shoes in his size

I don't bother with cruisers babies don't need them I just get completely soft slippers once they were cruising and will get proper shoes once walking properly

Early on we didn't use shoes. It was warm enough to do bare feet or socks. We just made sure that it was safe where she walked. Then at some point (don't remember exactly when), we bought her a pair of slippers. We were trying to avoid hard-soled shoes and couldn't find soft-soled shoes. The slippers were ok. They had a bit of a sole on them so they weren't just fabric on the ground. They did have a bit of squish to the sole which isn't ideal for a new toddler who should be able to feel the ground beneath her feet, but they were OK. Then when we lost those and went in search of new shoes, we discovered that Target has great soft-soled shoes. We got these boots:

They're a great design and we got them in the next size up when she out-grew the first pair. Now she is approaching the end of her time with these shoes and we bought some regular shoes.

What do you do outside then???

Ds didn't walk til 15 months and we got him shoes when he'd been walking 6 weeks. It was winter and he wasn't walking outside at all.
He did have a few pairs of shoes made by daisy roots that were just slip on soft leather.
We got his first proper ones from clarks but I wasn't impressed so ever since we have gone to an independent shoe shop.
Xx

My little guy started walking around 12 months and we bought his first shoes to mark it really-in clarks and measured. He's only really wearing them alot now as he only wears them outside and the weather has been improving.
He's so funny-he loves putting them on and going out for a toddle.I think he might need measuring again though.

I have a very late walker, he's only just starting now, and we haven't bought him shoes yet.

Lo started walking nearer to 13 months full time. First few months I didnt bother with shoes but then I tried him some in clarks and he wouldnt walk in them. Glad I never spend 30plus on them. Went asda instead and got a pair for 2 pound in the sale and he was walking amazingly fine in them! Clarks and anything else he just would not walk in them hr hated it

We didn't get shoes until she had been walking for a few weeks. We got the first ones from Asda and we get them from Clarks now. Her feet grow soo slowly that we don't need to buy them often though.

We got some when he started walking outside. They were from clarks. We managed to get some in the 50% off sale which was great. But his latest pair of shoes were full price (ouch). But, the good thing with clarks is that they wear so well. My boy's shoes go through a fair bit of punishment - mud, unexpected puddle splashing etc and they look as good as new still. So I think they are worth the cash.

We only got them once the kids started walking outside in places that they couldn't wear soft soled slipper-type shoes (we had some 'soccasins' which were fine on paved/tarmacked footpaths). After that, we kept them in cruisers for as long as we could - the 'proper' hard soled shoes are heavy and not flexible enough so we avoided them as long as possible, which wasn't that long as the girls both have big feet!

My daughter started walking at 9 months and we got her first shoes just before her first birthday when we felt she was confident enough to walk outside. Ive always gone to charles clinkard for her shoes as they have a better range than clarks and while sometimes shes had clarks shoes, I wouldnt consider going to the shop again. Ive been twice and both times the fitter has almost sent us home with very poorly fitted shoes. At cc they wont let you leave until a senior staff member checks the fit. If you ask too they will check if there are any sale shoes left.

We got him some 'crawler' shoes when he was cruising. Mainly to stop him ripping his socks off and it meant he could cruise outside too.

We went to brantano for proper shoes and got 4 pairs (1x Sandals 2x trainers and 1x walking boots - are in next size up) for £18!!

We simply cannot afford clarkes and the lady at brantano measured him and helped us fit them :)

We got them shoes when they started walking for outside. Inside they don't wear shoes. First shoes were the bendy-soled First walker shoes from Stride rite.
