Hi everyone!! :)

Last winter I was told I was priority for Flu Jab because i've had glanselor fever & neumonia (sorry about spelling :dohh:) when i was younger - I had the jab last December (i was pregnant at the time but miscarried 18th December at 7weeks 2days)

Do i need to have it this time? Or can i go without it as i had it last year? Im rubbish with what jabs i need and when but dont wanna risk it doing me more harm than favours if you know what i mean?

What you all doing/ think i should do?

I don't know what you should do but I'm getting mine on Thursday. I have a cold now and am feeling crappy enough without having full blown flu! I don't think I want to take the risk especially as pregnant ladies are more susceptible to complications. :)

Ahh flu's are horrible! booo! hope you feel better soon sweet :)

I was 100% going to have it then i saw a thread about the flu jab containing mercury and thats put questions in my head lol

I've already had mine. I felt fine afterwards and as far as I can be aware the LO is still fine.

I'm having the flu jab and think all pregnant ladies should have it, the complication rate of flu is much higher in pregnancy, including mortality rates.
Despite having it last year, you'll need it again though, each years batch is different to attack the strains of flu that are likely to be about this year.

is this flu jab something that is recommended? my mw hasnt mentioned anything about it yet ....

my dad said it changes every year so its up to date but my midwife hasnt said anything either yet but iv got my 20 week scan 11th October so i might get it booked sooner rather than later while weather still ok- ISH lol! x

honestly hun the flu jan WILL NOT harm ur baby. i found the other thread so irritating, its just scare mongering. its really important to have during pregnancy as u r far more susceptible to illness when pregnant as ur immune system is far lower and if u catch it flu can cause complications in pregnancy. thousands of pregnant women every year have the flu jab and since u pass ur antibodies on to baby it can protect them for approx 6 months after birth when flu could cause serious problems for a young baby. ive seen what flu can do to pregnant women when they are admitted to hospital, it is especially dangerous in 3rd tri, and we are preparing in hospitals for a major swine flu outbreak this winter so ur best being prepared. also the jab varies every year as the strain of fluj tends to vary so u will prob need this one too but ur best checkin with ur doc xxx

I asked my doctor about it and he said I'd rather not, jabs are still interventions in your body, and it's better to just be cautious and maintain basic hygiene. I trust this man blindly for a plethora of different reasons, so I follow his advice to the letter, but every pregnancy is different and so is everyone's circumstances.

For example, I'm a phd student and work from home, so I can choose not to have too much to do with the outside world, especially when viruses are on the loose. Perhaps he'd given a different advice to a civil servant or an air-hostess. No idea.

Always ask your doctor. Him, and him alone will tell you what's best for you. :winkwink:

I have got a 5 min break at work about 3pm so i will ring up my surgery and get it booked it..thanks everyone!! :) xxx
