Are any of you ladies having the flu jab?

I got a letter this morning from GP inviting me for the seasonal jab

Are the risks to the jab? I am considering having it as I have such a low immune system anyway

Xxx

I have no idea, Ive been offered it, but dont know the risks or side effects, but my immune system is horrible in the winter >.<

I've just had mine, I think (personally) its very very rare to get a reaction from the jab but if you get flu it can cause some serious problems during pregnancy :)

I'd like it and will be requesting it. Last year I got swine flu really bad which turned into pneumonia & pleurisy. Through all the coughing I cracked a rib and damaged the surrounding cartilage and was off work for three months. I literally couldn't do anything, my mum did everything for me from showering me to even feeding me! She was so worried she checked on me through the night - my mum is amazing. I couldn't imagine going through that as being pregnant/a new parent or if a baby had it. It was awful.

im booked in for mine i have asthma and bein pregnant too my midwife has adviced me to have it xxx

I think I'm going to have it, i know it doesnt guarantee against flu but at least if you have it you will know you've tried your best to not get the flu!

I had swine flu in my 1st trimester - it was hellish. Also had the flu vaccine (swine flu and the year's other strains mixed) when i recovered just incase i caught a different strain (it can happen, and i also have a crap immune system when it comes to viruses) and had no ill effects from the vaccine.....my wee man was born nearly 3 weeks ago and he's absolutely fine!

oh, you might also hear people say "the flu vaccine gave me the flu" - which is complete crap, its not an active living virus so cannot infect someone as dead viruses cant replicate! some people feel a bit off for a day or two but its just your immune system reacting to antigens in the vaccine and producing antibodies x

Im booked in to have mine next week, my surgery are advising all pregnant women to have it x

I got a letter a few weeks ago but as i'm so close i'm not bothering. Never had one with my first and i'm prepared to risk the illness instead of inject a foreign thing into me (albeit non-living virus). Just doesn't sit well with me, however, had i ever had flu (not sure if i have) and i was earlier in the pregnancy and closer to the changing seasons at that particular point, then yeah, i may well have considered the jab.

I'm booked in for mine next Monday and I'm due four days later! The midwife recommended it as it can help boost baby's immune system for the winter as well and hopefully prevent them from getting flu.

I'm having it next week too, my midwife strongly reccommened it as our lung capacities are smaller and our immune systems lower due to being pregnant, I have weighed it up and decided to go ahead and have it. Lots of people I have spoken to have said they wouldnt but I have 2 other children who are always bringing home nasties from school, so if I can get protected from the flu, then its one less thing i have to worry about catching xx

I don't think I will bother now I have 5 weeks to go and I haven't been invited to have the vaccination.

I asked about it right at the beginning and my GP said he wanted to "wait until the pregnancy was more established" which put doubts in my head so I didn't have it done back in February.

I'm sure it's safe though or they wouldn't routinely vaccinate pregnant women.

do you know if you can request it? i had it in jan just before i fell pregnant i so glad i did my dh and ds both had flu and with having jab i was ill for 24 hours where as they were ill for 2 weeks with it so i'd def have it again and like some of you have said will help baby through winter months with my ds being in nursery i am sure he will catch plenty x

im deffinatly going to have it done .

i have asthma and my immune system is shockinly crap at the best of times and at winter it is 100% worse .

ive had swine flu 3 times despite only thinking you can get the once, the last time i had it was at xmas and it was horrid :nope:.

i had flu a few weeks ago its not fun as there not much we can take for it, so im deffinatly getting the jab..... i know it sounds a little selfish but the thought of me feeling like i did last xmas and looking after a newborn scares me alot

xxx

it isn't selfish at all it is sensible you want to be able to look after them properly and if you can't get any help it isn't easy when your ill xx

I got one on Friday.

I had the H1N1 flu in my first trimester and I never want to go through that hell again.

I've requested one and am having it in a couple of weeks time. It's the combined seasonal flu and H1N1 (swine flu) jab. My immune system is rubbish at the best of times and I know we're at increased risk of catching bugs while pregnant. Also, I wouldn't want to get sick and for it to affect my LO so I'm having it just to be on the safe side.

Is anyone from northampton?? Just I haven't had a letter or an offer for it yet :( xx

I haven't been offered it yet. I have my 28 week check this afternoon, do you think I might get offered it then? If I do get offered I am going to have it.
