hi all,
Now that i'm 13+2 should i stop taking my folic acid that the GP prescribed ??

If i stop that what (if anything) should i take in place of it??
I'm not a fruit or veg kinda gal, i only eat veg once a week and thats cauliflower and broccoli.
i don't eat fruit at all.
I occasionally eat cereal but not often.

So should i be taking some kind of vitamin or supplement for the next 7 months?

I am prescribed folic acid by my GP, and have been advised by my specialist that i need to take this up till 14 weeks, as at that point everything that folic acid helps has fully developed and just needs to get bigger, and the folic acid doesn't help with that. He has advised me that i don't need to take any other supplements, but you would be best checking with your own gp to see if they feel that is the best for you too xxx

You should continue with you prenatal vitamin with DHA especially if you're not eating balanced meals.

Would the GP prescribe the above or do i buy that in a pharmacy??
Have no idea sorry! :D

My Doc prescribed 3, 90 pill refills. So that's 270 pills. that will last me my whole pregnancy! Am I suppose to take them for the whole pregnancy. this thread has me thinking! :D

Hi hun, at my 1st mw's appointment, i was recommended to take folic acid throughout my pregnancy. If you are taking pregnancy vitamins, FA is generally included. My guess is that since u'r not a big vegi/fruit fan :) you would still get enough nourishment for LO 'n yourself from your preg vitamins.
:hugs:

I stopped my higher mg folic acid at 13 weeks and just took a pregnacare tablet

I was recommended that after the First Trimester, it doesnt make any difference, and wasn't necessary to take them.

Lyn, I would actually ask you MW, she should be able to recommend the best brand and where to get it.

I have honest to God never heard of anyone who doesn't like fruit. I mean FRUIT? How can you not like grapes or apples? I totally get not grooving on say spinich or ick brussel sprouts, but FRUIT!?!? That just totally threw me for a loop!! My BIL doesn't eat ANY veggies. I keep telling him he's going to get scurvy or something. HA HA HA

I would take the folic acid until your next appt with your doc or midwife. Then you can ask them. I don't think it will hurt you or the baby and it might help.

I actually love fruit but am allergic to a lot of it. Apples, peaches, and pears are out. I used to hate bananas but since becoming pregnant have had cravings for them on occasion.

That being said, you can probably buy a decent prenatal on your own. There are websites that have a list of the vitamins your prenatal should have. I settled on the Target brand myself, and my OB nurse said that should be fine for me. But your doctor should be able to help if you have any questions. It may actually be something you can just call in for.

I used to like Apples but then ended up with sensitive teeth and kinda went off them.
Used to love bannana's as a child but can't stand the texture of them!

My next mw app is not till i'm 28weeks! (last app with her was 10week booking in)
Maybe i'll make an app with my GP.
thanks Ladies x

I would definitly consider taking a prenatal since you aren't big on fruits or veggies. There are a lot of vitamins that you can't get from bread and meats that will assist your body with the pregnancy.

Ha ha I do not like fruit or veg either. I eat a bit of salad here and there but I would rather not! Fruit is yuck! I have been taking vitamins you will be glad to hear!

Pregnacare I think it's called that's what my sister has been taking and I will be taking, it's all the vitamins and minerals you need huni look it up.... I don't know if I slept it right though. X
