In the past, my cycles have either been natural, with Clomid, or with Soy Isoflavones. When I first started Clomid mid-2009, I experienced pre-ovulation ovary pain/pressure/twinges for the first time. I was told this was caused by the swelling of the ovaries as follicles grew. It continued on my Soy Isoflavone cycles. And, I even had it (although much less) on my last cycle, which was 100% natural. I've come to expect this pain/pressure as my follicles grow and cause my ovaries to swell.

Now, I've moved on to injectables. I've done 3 injections of Follistim (50IU) so far for an IUI cycle. I would usually be feeling that ovary pain by now... but I'm getting nothing. My first ultrasound isn't for another 2.5 days, and I'm terrified that I'm not responding to the Follistim since I'm not feeling the pains. I've been very hopeful for this cycle, because injectables are supposed to be stronger/more potent than pills, as far as I know. So, I expected the pain to be worse... not completely absent.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Can anyone maybe help convince me that the pain isn't necessary for the drugs to be working? This is odd... and I'm getting worried. I don't want to lose this cycle because I didn't respond to the drugs! Any advice is appreciated!

Hey Megg! I had a look back through my symptoms diary (don't laugh, I can't help being anal!) for my last medicated cycle and I didn't get any bloating or cramping until about cd9. My cd10 scan showed that I had about 13 follies between 10mm and 14mm and I certainly felt it in the following days! So I think it is possible that you could still have lots of follie action going on but just not feeling it yet!

That being said, they will always start you on the lowest dose of meds to see how you react. My first cycle on 50ius was abandoned as my biggest follie at cd10 was only 6mm. They can up your dose though if you have an earlier scan and give you some more time for your follies to grow so there are still plenty of opportunities for this cycle to work out for you if you aren't quite reacting yet.

Good luck and babydust!

Thank you, MarsMaiden! I keep track of how I'm feeling too... So, I don't find that odd at all! I really appreciate the info! I hope they see something good or have time to up the dose so we don't lose the cycle on Thursday!!! :)
