So I'm expecting my first but thought that would ask you all in here for some suggestions since have gone through it already and probably fairly recently as well.

Unfortunately my doctor is one who does not allow any food whatsoever during labor and delivery. All I can have are ice cubes and they plan on giving me a glucose drip because I am hypoglycemic (sp?). Which really sucks cause I'm someone who HAS to eat something every couple of hours or else results in me passing out. But anyways. Because of this I was planning on bringing some snacks along with me so that as soon as have that baby can hopefully start eating something before who knows when would bring actual meal up to me to eat.

Any suggestions of what would be good to bring? I figure probably want something on the lighter side but have no idea what would be in mood to even eat at that point or if anything imparticular would bother stomach at all. Are crackers a good thing to bring? What do you all suggest?

Well I didn't wanna eat anything at all after labour but the only things my OH could get me to eat was chocolate and cereal bars. I got Special K chocolate chip cereal bars which were great and just some Dairy Milk to cheer me up cos I hated hospital. I also took Lucodaze non fizzy sports drinks which made me feel better but the midwives said I wasn't allowed them cos of the sugar, pfft. I'd say take something that you can eat quietly in the middle of the night too when you need a bit of a boost, so not crisps or anything too crunchy but plain chocolate is great. If you're in the UK you're offered tea and toast right away anyway :flower:

when my little boy was born at 5.03am the midwife made me tea and toast... can't remember what i had for lunch but as soon as the coffee shop was open oh went and got me a raspberry and white chocolate muffin. (i also had one of these while in labour as they were delicious)

I'm guessing you must be in the US as in the UK you are encouraged to eat during labour within reason. After both my babies I have found the tea and toast the hospital give you to taste like the most delicious food ever invented:haha: It's just cheap white bread and butter but OMG it tastes so good. I ate four slices after Sally was born! We packed cereal bars and haribo kids mix in our bag as well as some full sugar coke and some chocolate biscuits. I ended up really craving fruit and DH had to go to the exorbitantly priced hospital shop to get me a banana and some grapes! If we ever have number three I'll take some really tasty fruit with me.

I had my last food at 6pm before doing to the hospital to be induced at 8pm. LO's heartbeat kept dropping, so I was taken down for them to break my waters at approx 11pm. I was really hungry and was told I couldnt eat, incase I would need a C-Section. They were monitoring LO's heartbeat and my stomach rumbling could be heard on the monitor. In the end, I was taken for an emergency CS at 6am. I was then told I could eat for 24 hours!!!

After this I was extremely hungry as you could imagine. I wanted primarily toast / tea and cereal bars. I hope they dont starve you as long as they did me :)

Thanks ladies. I have no idea how soon hospital will bring food. last time I was there asked for some and took hour half to bring it to me. So who knows. Also figure if in middle of night would be nice to have something as well just in case. But you are right probably not good idea to have something crunchy and noisy cause sure husband wouldn't appreciate it in middle of night.

Hi, Im hypoglycemic also but wasnt put on a drip, I had a very long labour, over 20hrs so didnt eat for something like 36 hours total in the end but the adrenaline took over and Im amazed I managed!

Biscuits like digestives were great to have at my bedside and OH got me a cheese baguette as soon as I could eat again.

Ill say this though Im so glad I had a huge plate of paste as my last meal before I was hooked up and couldnt eat anymore!

We were in the hospital from about 8 or 9pm and I had my son at 7.09am. Straight after they gave me and my OH tea, toast and cornflakes - I ate mine, then I ate his, then I started being sick and couldnt stop so it was a bit of a waste, lol. xxx

I told my OH to get his ass through the McD's drive-thru and bring me two 1/4 lb'ers with fries and diet coke. After 3 days of labour (and no food), I needed the refuel.

Pick for your favourites foods and go with that whether it's crackers or skittles. You will be ravenous and that's the one time in your life that everyone should bow to your queen demands!!! :)

I had tea and toast after delivery but could have done with a cheese sandwich! I ate at 4am then wasn't given anything until 1pm and I really wanted a cheese sandwich!

I had some toast straight after delivery at 8am but then as soon as the shops were open I sent DH out to get me a prawn baguette! That's all I wanted cos I'd been dying for prawns the whole through my pregnancy! I ate it as soon as I got up to the ward at 11am! Then had the hospital lunch too. I was starving!

i was also given tea and toast after delivery, and i took powerade to drink during labour, and cerial bars.
next time i would do the same. maybe take some fruit as well. i would also have packed a sandwich for oh as he was starving but i didnt fancy anything.

Thanks ladies. I guess will bring some Nutri Grain bars and also some chocolate chip granola bars as well. Maybe these will work long enough till get meal from hospital or my husband can go get me something that is more substantial.

I had lucozade, chocolate and a prawn mayo sandwich (I was dying for one after pregnancy:haha:)

I drank lucozade orange during labour!! And I had tea and toast after I gave birth as I was starving!
I hadn't eaten anything in at least 18 hours as I just didn't want to at all ...
I also had a ham sandwich from the ward as soon as I went from delivery to the ward for the night...

I was really looking forward to the tea and toast........nothing came. I even said I was starving. The midwife told my hubby to go to the cafe to get me something!! He got me sandwich, cheese and onion crisps and a can of coke. Toast was not served at all in the hospital I was in.....apparently its against policy to cook toast there!!!! I had cereal with room temp milk the morning after for breakfast. Yuk.

Pfft I didn't, I should hbe asked for something but I was in awe of Oliver I didn't even think!

I would say take something like chocolate or a cereal bar, also a fruity drink I had Capri sun and a bottle of lucasade (sp)

cereal bars are great and lucozade!!

I timed my labour perfectly.. I went in at 7am (had a cereal bar on route) didnt fancy eating during labour but drunk loads but baby arrived at 9.52am and then I had lunch at 12.00 - a jacket potato and cheese!

My MW made me tea & toast as soon as she'd done my stitches, then shortly after I got brought in a big plate of cheese salad from the kitchen as I'd missed my lunch on the ward. I ate the lot lol.
Someone then came round in the evening with tea, carrot cake and egg sandwiches! :flower:
