Riya started on hipp jars at 4 months, and has now moved onto the 6 month food jars.

Typically.....

Breakfast : hipp cereal / porridge
Lunch : 125gm jar of meat and veg, pasta etc
Tea : mashed fruit or fruit dessert

She also has milk feeds in between.

Im now keen on introducing other food types / finger foods which I can make and will allow her different textures, but as she has no teeth Im a bit unsure of weather I can give her toast, slices of fruit, cut up veg, ie carrots.

Any ideas pls of suitable foods

Thanks

I'm doing BLW with Alice and she happily chomps through steamed veg, toast, rice cakes, fruit and even strips of meat even though she's still toothless! She's not great with harder fruit like apple, but I sometimes poach it to soften it a little then she's fine. At 7 months, you can pretty much give anything you like.

Thanks - does your LO actually swallow the toast, rice cakes etc or just suck them. I'm just bit concerned she may choke on the toast.

Nope, she chews and swallows. Early on she gagged a bit, but the food popped right out again. Choking is really rare. It took me a while to trust her and let her deal with the lumps herself.

Toast is a really good one as it goes quite soggy once it's in their mouth. I spread mashed banana on it.

Babies DO gag but it's not the same as choking. Just watch her closely and offer her water which will help with the drier food.

Have you thought about making your own purees - it's so easy and then you could leave a few lumps in or make them thicker so she gets used to it. You could add couscous or tiny pasta shapes as well.
Hope that helps x

I was introduced to BLW by my SIL and was a little hesitant at first but I think starting some finger foods around 7-8 months is not a bad idea. I give LO purees but for snacks I give pieces of toast and he just gums then like he would a baby MUM MUM. Also when i'm making dinner I will give him some chunks of veggies and fruit. I have cut up pieces of peppers and apples and he seems to enjoy them. I do watch him closely as he really enjoys fruit and sometimes manages to get chunks off, but we've never had any problems. Hope this helps!

Ripe bananas are soft; you can give them to her in small pieces. Cheerios you already mentioned. French toast (if you know she has no egg allergy), or just plain soft bread. Very well cooked pasta. Cooked (softened) fruit...peaches, apples, pears. Again, if you're CERTAIN there's no egg problem, you could give a hard boiled egg, or an omelet cut into small pieces.
