Hello everyone ! Hope you and your little ones are all doing well.

I am about to complete my online payment for me and OH to be able to join an NCT Antenatal course which runs over a period of 8 weeks and is relevant to my due date. :happydance:

I'm just curious as to whether any of you ladies have also reserved a place on an NCT course which you will be starting soon, or whether you have been on one before/have already started one, and if so, what your thoughts on it were/are.

The course me and OH will be attending will cover all aspects of birth and it also includes a breastfeeding lesson.

Thanks ladies ! Good luck to you and your bumps ! :cloud9::hugs:

Hi I am due with my first and am due to start my NCT classes next month. I have been recommended to go by several people who said not only for the information but to meet people who are due the same as you. I really think they are worth the money as there are only a few other couples with you so plenty of time to ask questions, share worries etc. Im quite looking forward to them xx

I've signed us up too! A little early, but my MW said they get booked up early in our area. I've heard that they're really valuable, as well as the friendships that come out of them.
For what its worth, my SIL loved the antenatal classes but said not to bother with the ''early days' postnatal course they also offer
I didnt bother with NCT membership either, £40 seemed a lot for a few magazines!

I've signed up already for July courses in our area. It's not NCT but they are NCT trainers called 'Birth Matters' in Bucks and Berks.

Not only did the idea of doing evenings and weekends appeal to my husband and I as we work full time, they cover everything and we've already attended a free Early Pregnancy Class which we really enjoyed.

I was a bit of the opinion, 'I can learn it all online' (I'm a Learning and Development Consultant) but I'm really attending to meet other mums-to-be in the area and to hopefully build up a support network.

I hope this helps; good luck! X

I've signed up too, my classes start mid-May. I've heard good things about them anyway but my main reason was to meet some like-minded people in my area who I can hopefully strike up a friendship with. I moved here when I met my husband but work elsewhere and really just want to find some other ladies with babies, as well as obviously learning about labour and birth techniques.

Do you have to pay to go to the ante natal classes? I am going for a full day at the hospital next month x

You pay for NCT classes but not the NHS ones at your hospital.

Thanks ladies, it sounds like they're well worth it then ! I'm really looking forward to them now. :happydance:

Amy_1234, you have to pay for the NCT courses but if you're on benefits or low income or are under 18 then I think you get a 90% discount on the course and membership. :)

Thanks for posting this! I've just signed up myself! I didn't know where to look but googled them and they cover the area where I live! Such a great website full of info - was reading through the labour stages and cried at the end -hahaha!
Haven't paid yet as they're sending me info - anyone have any idea of how much I can expect it to cost?
Thank you xxx

Hi ours are £122 for 6 classes each lasting 2 hours, I didnt bother becoming a member as also thought it was quite expensive for a couple of magazines (my sister didnt become a member either and she sometimes gets the magazine anyway) xx

Hello,
We are going to NCT starting first week of may. It's come round very quickly to say i reserved the place in December!!!!! :)
I was told that it is well worth the men going to the breast feeding session, dont just think it wont be relevant to them cos they cant do it, apparently our men folk can be useful...
:hugs:

Hi we did NCT classes when We had my son 3 years ago. I really thought they were well worth their money. They are very much a discussion and taking part type of course not just someone lecturing you. I feel they covered everything we could possibly need to know and assured me that the whole giving birth process is nothing to be scared of. Thanks to this course I managed to stay at home until I was 10 cm dilated with little worry and managing my pain relief naturally. I got to hospital and he was delivered 2 hours later. I truely know that if it was not for this course I would have been no where near as calm about the whole process and would have gone to hospital much sooner. The group was small with only 5 other couples and the times they offered (evenings) suited us very well as 2 full time workers. I doubt you will have any regret booking these. I have remembered eveything from last time and know all I learnt will get me through this time. Good luck ladies x

ive booked myself onto the course too, and the NCT Yoga class. ive heard amazing things about mother to be yoga and as im a gym go-er i was interested in this :) so exciting ladies xx

LetsTryAgain, ah that's amazing ! I can't believe you stayed at home until you were 10cm dilated, that's just mindblowing ! I really want a waterbirth and apparently the course covers this so I'm looking forward to that part. :happydance:

I am just doing the Parent Craft ones at my NHS hospital every Wednesday afternoon from 2-4pm. I am also going to breastfeeding information and support classes through my NHS hospital. I am soo pumped full of information right now that I honestly think that's enough :haha:

I have joined up to ante-natal classes in our area as they have been recommended to me by a few people. Plus, the NHS ones near us don't allow Dad's to attend which the NCT ones do. Mine start early June and it is costing £169 for our sessions.

I did pay the membership fee because i like the Nearly New Sales and you get advance entry to them! I went to one this morning and got loads of equipment for about £70, saving me at least a hundred pound so it was worth it for me just for that!!
