I highly recommend spatone liquid sachets.
My iron levels at 28 weeks were only slightly under the recommended level at 10.8, but my midwife wanted me to try and raise this. She prescribed iron tablets (pregaday) which I tried for a few weeks but these made me violently sick every day.
I looked into alternative ways to increase my levels and found out about spatone. My midwife agreed I could stop the pills and try the liquid form but said it was not available on prescription. However, i felt the cost of buying these was a small price to pay for the sickness stopping. I started taking them at approx 31/32 weeks at after my blood tests at 36 weeks my iron levels had risen to 12.9.
Spatone can be bought from Sains, tesco, boots etc. They cost approx £8 / £9 for 24 sachets. Pregnant women can take 2 a day (I have one for brekkie and one for supper). Its best to take with OJ as this helps the body absorb them better.
Hopefully someone else might benefit from these too.
