For what reason would they induce you?

I know blood pressure, pre eclampsia, growth scares etc.. but would they ever induce you purely for being completely fed up and down about being pregnant? I'm not quite at that stage yet as I am 'only' 2 days overdue but I was just wondering if they would ever decide to induce you because of how down you are about the whole thing? Or if you are just struggling with day to day things, like sleeping, getting up the stairs, in and out of the bath.. or in my case eating (i get out of breath eating ha). Thinking i might be at that stage by my next MW appointment next wednesday if she isnt here by then.. x

I think it's unlikely they'd induce you just because you're fed up - they have guidelines for a reason and they unfortunately can't bend the rules for some and not others. That said -if you don't ask, you don't get! You might get a very sympathetic MW or consultant. I wouldn't get your hopes up though x

I am hoping she will be here by then anyway as its a full 7 days away.. I just read earlier that Lyn was going to ask if she could be induced cos she was (and rightly so)emotionally drained by the whole thing (i think??! ) x

my mums consultant induced her for spd 1 day over due dont get me wrong she was really bad with it but she said herself that she couldve put up with it i think shes just got a good consultant that examined her and knew she wasnt far away anyway so thought why put her thru more pain xx

This is my first pregnancy so I am not sure really but I think your midwife would consider a sweep at this stage, which may or may not get things moving.

I cant have a sweep till 41 weeks which is monday- so I dont see the point in having one lol. x

I don't know how it is in you're area but here if you've had a healthy pregnancy and you don't have any problems like SPD etc then they won't induce you intill you're 14 day's overdue. I'm pretty sure it's the same everywhere but I could be wrong.

In my area they induce you when you get to 10 days overdue if you've had a normal pregnancy xx

in my area the will give you a sweep at 7 days over due if you've had a normal pregnancy and start to induce you at 10 days if nothings happened from your sweep unless its a sympathetic consultant and they see your ready anyway i still think its worth asking xx

12-14 days in my area to be induced. I do have SPD but its not so bad that I would ask them to induce me because of it, im sure I can wait another 9-10 days tops :) x

Lynn's got bad SPD so they might induce her early because of that - but again, it depends on the consultant/MW. Some are more sympathetic than others!

Just posted this in another thread too, but here is the NICE guidance on induction of labour

https://www.nice.org.uk/nicemedia/pdf/CG070NICEGuideline.pdf

It's important to note that your hospital/MW don't HAVE to follow these, they are just guidelines, so local protocol might be different.
