Found out I'm pregnant last night but.....

Hi all

Well we have been ttc for three months, and last night got my :bfp:!!!

Taken 3 tests and have a clear blue one to use when OH gets home!! soo shocked!! But over the moon!!!

The only issue is - my company is going thro a review and I recently attended an interview for a promotional job. I got the job (yay) with a start date of 1/4/13
I had my new contract thro yesterday which I have to sign and return. I'm wondering what to do? Should I sign and tell them I'm preg? Or should I wait a little bit? I'm worried they may withdraw the offer when they find out?

I got the job the end of Jan but only had the contract yesterday. I don't know how many weeks I am yet, I've rung the doctors but they only have space on Tuesday. Grrr!

My last AF was the 11/1 so dont think I am far along. The job involves visiting people in their home so don't know if it would be safe? Another girl who also one of the jobs is currently preg but she's 3 months along and they seem ok about that? (She has told work already)

Argh soo confused right now!! Any advice would be great xxx
 
I personally wouldn't tell them, sign the contract and then tell them once you've had your scan.

I wouldn't tell them either. It's a private thing that we don't usually talk about until the 12 week scan. Also, I don't know if it's the general thing, but my firm's policy is to let them know by the time you are 24 weeks. Congratulations on both the pregnancy and job x
 
I know i'm not planning on telling my work until the latest I can possibly tell them... they were a*seholes to me last time.
 
I wouldn't tell either just yet. Also, I don't think legally they can withdraw an offer because you're pg, especially if they've made an offer of employment prior to knowing. I may be mistaken but I think that falls under descrimination.

Thats wonderful news! And like everyone else, I would wait on telling work until you've had a doctors appointment/scan just to make sure everything is going good
 
I'd sign the contract, and I won't tell work until after pregnancy is confirmed and into 2nd tri. I'm up for a job currently, and if I get it, this is how I plan to act.

I'm not trying to be sneaky, but the way I think is you never know what could happen.

Congratulations!! Sign away, you might not have found out until next week, they are not to know when you did a test. Had you had the contract last week, you would have signed not knowing anyway. Good luck with your new job and your wonderful news.
 
I'm with everyone else... Just continue as you would if you weren't pregnant. I was reading up on the legalities and in Canada you actually only have to tell your employer 30days before due date (although it would be pretty obvious by then!). I'm planning to tell my boss about 14 weeks.

Are you going to be visiting sick folks? If so, make sure you won't be exposing your baby to any infection.
 
Congrats on the pregnancy and the job! I wouldn't say anything though. Sign the contract!
 
I agree in not telling them (because depending on the laws of your country, it's discrimination if you're overlooked for a promotion, fired or given reduced hours - so they don't have to be informed), however, depending on how you react, you may need to tell them earlier.

I didn't want to tell work until at least 12-14 weeks, I had to tell the boss at 7 weeks because morning sickness was causing me to take time off.

The other reason you may want to tell them earlier would be dependant on your work environment and your job role. For example, certain chemicals are highly advisable for pregnant women not to be around.

Im thinking Im going to sign the contract and away to go. The new role doesn't start until 01/04/2013 and Im only 5 weeks today. I plan on telling work around 13 weeks.

Only prob is I got a six month probation as part of the new role (altho, I've worked for the same company for 8 years)
the probation runs from April for six Months - do you think they can do anything with regards to me being preg and the probation??

I would wait to tell them. Go and sign it and act like nothing is wrong. Make sure you make it past the 3 months and all is ok, then you can tell them. I am only speaking from experience as I lost my little bean. You never know what can happen.
 
They wont be able to do anything with the probation. You'll be able to finish it up before mat leave which is awesome. Law is on our side if they do let you go or anything over pregnancy...
 
I totally agree with the others.i was pregnant when i started a new job last time with a probation period and there was no issues at all.it's illegal to discriminate against a woman because she's pregnant.we recently had someone start with us at 8 months pregnant, so she was only there a month before she went off.

As for working in the community i do that also.that's where you may have to tell you employer when you start your new post, because they can't offer you any protection if they don't know your pregnant.but like you say you'll be further along by then. I had to tell my employer this week because there were folk with certain conditions i couldn't see and some moving and handling i couldn't do.

But most importantly of all....CONGRATULATIONS! :) xx
