Before we got pregnant, I did a "preconception checkup" with my doctor. It went pretty well, tbh. He's not taking new patients, so he refused to give any advice to my OH (my first frustration). At that point, he told me the plan would be for him to provide care until about 30 weeks, and then refer me somewhere else.
The desk staff at my doctor's current office are TERRIBLE.
When I called and told them I was pregnant, the receptionist asked if I was married. I said no, and she made a comment about not needing an appointment to be referred for an abortion. I was shocked, and angrily told her I had no intention of aborting. All she said was "well then", put me hold and another person picked up and finished making my appointment.
So it took almost two weeks to get me in, and he did a urine test to confirm and told me to book and appointment for around 8 weeks to come back.
I called his office back a few days later, and they booked me in for an appointment later than I thought they would, for 9 weeks 5 days according to my LMP. That should have been on Friday, but they called on Wednesday and told me I would have to rebook, that my Doctor was overbooked for that day. They told me he's going on vacation, the other doctor in the practise is busy, and the next appointment available (any appointment, I'm not asking for a specific time) is after he gets back.
By that point, I'll be 14 weeks, and not have had any care at all. Today I went to a walk-in just to see if they could refer me to someone who could see me sooner and maybe order some tests, and was told they can only provide referrals for their family practise patients, not walk-ins. They gave me the number for a clinic who takes self-referrals, but doesn't deliver at the hospital I want.
So I'm not sure. If I'll wait out my family doctor, or just call the other clinic and make an appointment. I'd rather deliver at the hospital closer to my house, but I also can't keep waiting 2-3 weeks only to have appointments cancelled.
