I took myself down to the maternity assessment unit a few hours ago (not in my healthboard though) as I hadn’t felt much movement and was a little concerned. I had tried fizzy juice, chocolate and cold water to no avail. Sat in the waiting room to be seen and baby starts kicking.

I get called in and they find heartbeat, loud and strong. Check my BP all looking good. MW then says I’ll measure your Fundal Height and asks me how far along I am, I tell her just over 23wks and she says ahhh I’m measuring you at 28cm, when are you seeing your MW? She may want to send you for a growth scan and wrote up some info for my notes... erm okay!

I have googled that being out by 1-2 cm is okay, but is 5 cm normal?

I never had this when pregnant first time.

Hey hun.

Try not to worry too much. Baby may of just had a growth spurt!

I'm 26 weeks and only measuring 20!

I'm sure my bump grows one day then shrinks the next!!

Speak with your midwife tho. Always best to get professional advice i think!!

Good luck!!

Usually they dont start measuring FH till 25 weeks but would def tell your MW when you see her and is your FH hasnt caught up with gestation she may send you for a growth scan...I dont believe it is anything to worry about tho as if it was woman at assessment unit would of passed you straight for growth scan...can you remember babys measurements at 20 week scan?

I had a scan on 7th June and was told baby measurements were spot on for my dates, so was a little confused when I was told I was measuring like I should be 28wks not almost 24wks.

I am not concerned, but wondered if I should be lol.

Just have to wait and see what MW says on Weds.
Thanks girls

As others have stated, be sure to mention it to your midwife.

But I wouldn't worry. Fundal height is just an estimate and no two midwives measure FH the same, so you could get a different FH from two different midwives on the same day!
When I was only 13 weeks along, my MW measured mine and I was measuring 16cm. She wasn't concerned at all.
It doesn't mean you're having a big baby, or are further along than you thought (especially if ultrasounds have been accurate with your due date)... sometimes it's just the way your baby is laying, etc. I find second pregnancies measure a little further ahead too... maybe because our uterus is stretched out already?

Good Luck
