Zoe is now 5 months and has been a fussy baby every since she was born.. i would say she moans and cries 80% of the time she is awake.. and is happy for 20% at 5 minute intervals.. thing is she always cries real tears..... i am starting to wonder if she is in pain or something.... do you think some babies are generally unhappy or could it be something else...

she eats ok.. only maybe 3-4oz at a time or 5-10 minutes on boob every 2-3 hours.. she sleeps ok at night and only wakes once or twice. daytime she naps for 30 minutes every 2 hours... tried everything to lengthen naps but nothing works...

overall she is healthy.. she has a cold now so she is extra fussy but she is always fussy anyway.. any advice from moms with fussy babies? or could she just be what they term high need? For instance i cant leave her alone for a minute or she cries and she needs to change activity every 5 minutes... i am exhausted... i just hope there is nothing wrong with her..

xx

Is she gaining weight ok? My LO feeds 5-6ozs every 2.5 hrs approx... maybe she is hungry? My LO also gets whiney if she has wind?

You've probably thought of this....

sorry sweetie, not sure what else it could be...

xx

thanks hun.. I try and feed her more often but she is not interested and she never takes big feeds.. she is putting on weight fine... she is just always miserable

xx

Remind me about what your birth was like hon? I have heard of some babies who have had a long or traumatic type birth benefitting form cranial osteopathy. Some friends of ours had it done when their LO was about 2 months old and he went from a baby who nearly constantly cried to one who was incredibly chilled out and happy.

hi hun... it was long.. 19 hours... she was not stressed as heartbeat constant but dont know.. maybe u r right??:hugs:

I think it can be helpful where there was alot of pushing so LO got a bit squashed in the birth canal. With my friend, she was pushing for a couple of hours but not progressing and ended up with a c-section.

I'm not sure if it would be any use at all but here's a link with some info

What about reflux? Maybe she's in pain from that?

I'd agree with trying cranial osteopathy. Also, baby massage helps with sleep patterns. Baby's sleep differs dramatically from baby to baby. I can tell you that Ethan sleeps 7pm 6am ish then 9-11 then 3-5 and sometimes a half hour nap at about 12. He's always been a big sleeper (didn't sleep through till 7mo and until then had another 2hr nap about 11:30) so he's the other end of the spectrum. Never a big eater, but not fussy. About 50z bottles still at 5mo and 6oz now although he has meals too now, so maybe she's hungry? I wonder if it will settle her when she begins eating baby rice? I know someone who had a realy fussy baby and kept giving calpol as she thought it was teething. In the end she weaned her at 5m and she's much better temperant now, so if you're not worried about early weaning try a little baby rice just once a day and see if it makes a difference? If she was in pain I'm sure she'd be actually crying.

she does not vomit really.. unless its the silent kind.. how would i know?:hugs:

I don't really know a lot about it but my daughter's pediatrician said she has it. He said that because she hates hates being on her back then it could be it as she may sometimes feel the acid in her throat. She doesn't throw up and has been gaining weight well so if it IS it, it's the silent type.

Charlotte has reflux & when it is flaring up she is VERY fussy & clingy. Charlotte does throw up a lot but not all babies do. Main symptoms are hating being flat on their back, arching their back, especially when feeding & moaning or grunting when eating or just after, getting hiccuups a lot or wet sounding burps. Also not eating much or constantly snacking can be signs.
We did try cranial osteopathy as I had a tough birth-she was back to back & wouldnt turn & ended up needing forceps & ventouse so she was pretty battered & bruised when she was born. The osteopathy didnt help with her reflux symptoms but did make her a lot more settled so that when the reflux isnt bothering her, she is a much happier baby. The osteopath said that all her head was squashed down, creating pressure so she basically had a constant headache, no wonder she was a grumpy bugger!
