My first glucose test results just came back and they were elevated, so I have to go back in for the follow up screening... I was just wondering, from those of you who have had this, what would change for the next coupe of months if I do end up having GD? Would I just eat differently? Or is there more to it? I didn't have this with my first so I have no clue what to expect.

There is a great GD support thread on the Gestational Complications forum.

But the quick rundown is that if you were to fail your 2nd test, you would be asked to monitor your blood sugars for the rest of the pregnancy doing finger pricks, and given some advice on how to control the blood sugar levels through diet, portion control, and exercise. Depending on your practitioner, you may also receive additional ultrasounds. If your blood sugar levels don't seem to be able to be controlled with diet and exercise, medication may be used - metformin is a common first step, and then fast and slow acting insulin, depending on what is needed to keep your blood sugar numbers low. For labor & delivery, depending on whether you are diet-controlled or not, you may be on an insulin and/or glucose IV drip to keep your numbers well regulated and hopefully avoid any blood sugar crash for the LO, who will also be monitored closely after birth.

I think that hits all the main points, but check out the GD support thread - TONS of information there :)

Thank you. That was very helpful. I completely missed the thread, I'll go look for it now. Thanks so much!
