This thread is for pregnant ladies who have given up or are trying to give up smoking for their health and their babies!
PLEASE DO NOT POST TO CRITICISE OR OFFEND as quitting is very difficult to do, and hopefully this thread can be a great place for people to help each other quit the habit for good! I understand alot of people might be scared to admit to smoking or ashamed to admit it, so for this reason please do not belittle anyone who has had the courage to admit their addiction.
I will start.....this is my First day of quitting! I am using patches to help with the cravings, and the thought of the little baby growing in my belly is the biggest incentive and gives such motivation to keep going!
Please post if you are going through the same thing or wish to quit! We can do it together!!

I quit the day I found out I was pregnant,I was like 3 weeks and 4 days.I havent picked up a cigarette since then.I am very lucky because for some reason I havent had any problems with it,plus knowing that I had a baby depending on me made it 100 times easier.I feel blessed to have had it so easy and I hope everyone else is as lucky!Habits are very hard to break!

I have given up a while now and I must say the all day nausea really helped me with that. Smoking made it just soo much worse. I started cutting down from almost 2 packs a day to 15 a day, then 10, and then 3 to 1 and since I enjoyed none of them anyway the final giving up became easier. But apart from all that, my best incentive was to imagine my sharing a smoke with my baby. I had to visualise it that drastically to begin with to bring it home what I was doing. Good luck ladies, you can all do it! :)

i tried quitting as soon as i found out but i found it very hard, i did cut down though from about 10-12 cigerettes a day to 3-4.
from the beginning of week 6 i had MS, the first night i had it,i tried smoking a cigerette in the night and i was nearly sick and i have not had one since. so luckily the ms has made me quit smoking.

good luck to everyone, i hope you all manage to quit one way or another xx

Well done to you all for quitting. I fortunately managed to give up while I was still TTC but I know how difficult it is to stop. Keep up the good work,

Good luck to all those trying to quit! I am sure it is hard!

I quit smoking the minute I found out I was pregnant with my son in 09. I was a smoker of 8 years. Like alot of women say, whats the best reason to quit? Your little baby growing in you of course! I can say I have been smoke free since my son and plan to be for the rest of my life. I know it hard to quit ladies but the cravings don't last forever, just keep telling yourself that your stronger than them and you can get through it!

Well done to everyone who quit or is trying to, i quit when i was 4 weeks pregnant, i am now 20w4d and still going strong. You can do it, it will get easier as the weeks go by i promise! And my skin is so much clearer and my lungs feel healthier! More money to spend on baba too :) x

Hey!

Keep going everyone!!

I quit the day I found out (4.5 weeks) and even DH has cut right down.

I have to admit that even now... I could scratch out someones eyes for a fag!!!:dohh:

Now alcohol was a different story... not interested in spritzers or 'just having 1 beer'. Can really take or leave it!
:winkwink:

Good luck in your quests to stop. You dont stop craving just because youre growing a little one! x x x:kiss:

I quit as soon as I found out that I was pregnant with my first daughter (6 weeks I do believe) and decided that I was NEVER going to take it up again. Which was a good decision because I would have to go through all of that again lol. Good luck to all of you ladies that are trying or have quit for the sake of your little ones! My first was born with severe asthma, eczema and food allergies so it is a good thing I did quit and didn't pick it back up.

You ladies are amazing!! My husband decided to quit because of the baby, and he has been battling constant cravings. It takes so much hard work and I admire you all for it.

Ive never smoked, but my mum has since she was 12! shes having to give them up due to a heart condition and I SEE how hard it is.... Keep at it girls, the baby will LOVE you for it! :)

I quit about a week after i found out i was pregnant, although if i am going to be honest, i have had one or two since then when i've been very stressed, its really not easy but will be so worth it! don't let people judge you and take it slow if you need too! xx

so....my 1st attempt to quit last week wasnt very successful
BUT...... i am trying again today and feel much stronger!! ANyone else doing the same? Wish me luck!

i'm finding it so difficult. i quit during my first pregnancy and stupidly picked it up again after she was born.
as soon as i found out i was pregnant i tried going cold turkey didnt work, tried patches didnt work :( so now iv cut down, im down to 2 a day from 15, an hopefully by next week ill have quit. its definately been easier reducing them though!

good luck to everyone! its not an easy ride! xx

hey ladies . iv not managed to stop yet im still on my 3 aday . but what i did find was . mayfair do a fag that is only 1mg tar and 0.1 nicotine ,1mg carbon minoxside . i find those helping me just now . and there alot better than the 40 i smoked aday of 10mg . tho if im honest i have had to stop myself nicking hubbys for a real smoke when he sleeping . :flower:

Well done to all who have given up, dh and I both stopped smoking in Feb 2010 and haven't looked back since! We both love being smoke free it really is worth it (financially too!)
Keep it up everyone :hugs:

I carried on smoking the first day I found out, mostly as I was rather surprised :D. The next day I started on low dose 16hr patches (far lower than I should have been using for the amount I smoked). I used those for a week and have now been completely clear for 4 days. I'm rather proud of myself, but when I dropped into the pub I work in two staff were out back smoking,... I had to actually lock my hands behind my back and walk away.

I'm so proud of everyone who is trying hard to quit. It's not easy but it is so worth it. Such a shame I love them so ;). Clear for 10 days now :).

I quit after TTC for a long time with no results to better my health alltogether. That was a year + ago after being a smoker for 16 years. It is very hard. I used patches too! My reason was that I wanted a baby and that kept me going. Take it just 10 seconds at a time.

Now my MIL is trying to quit - also for babies sake. I wish her the best of luck and to all you ladies, IT GETS EASIER WITH TIME! I would also recommend the patches.

Great Stuff!

I gave up as soon as i found out at 3.5 weeks, I am now 20 weeks pregnant with a baby girl and its the best decision ever! although at times i could use one but never picked up a smoke since finding out!!
Good luck ladies. Occupy your time, eat fruit, walk and i also helped by staying in and sounds bad but stayed away from my mates that smoked for a few weeks! It will come and i feel so much better! Good Luck x
