Giving up your cats... *NOW WITH PHOTOS!!!*

hehehe... I bought a spray bottle the other day and it only took one spray for Yoshi to learn!! now she's away like the clappers when she sees me reaching for it! smart little bugger!

It is a shame so many people give up animals, my parents gave up their doggy when I was born, but that was because the dog would growl etc when you went near her when she was eating. my folks didn't want me to crawl over and pull on its tail or sumthin when she was eating and maybe getting bitten! I now have no intention of giving up my wee furball!!!

Aw, you don't have to give you your kitty hun. I could never do that! Cats and babies are fine. Like it's been said, you just have to be careful if you are changing their litter, but it's also the same with gardening. You have to be careful of any of their litter that's scattered across the garden. As long as you don't come into contact with it, you'll be fine x

lol no I'm pretty sure it's just kitty poop. no need to tell hubby that though hehe xx

no need to give the cat up hun just make th OH do the poo and your fine i asked my GP about it because i got so upset about giving up my kitty dave but its ok. xxx

I've got 3 adult cats, and now the proud owner of a 6 week old kitten (had him since he was 4 weeks due to circumstances so hand fed with bottle for 2 weeks). Like other say as long as you don't touch poo. Good excuse as soon as i ovulate to say i might be pregnant and hubby does it bless, but he is quick when AF comes to let me carry on lol. x

Aw you're kitty is way too cute!! I love how your OH wants nothing to do with the camera and is totally focused on the tv! Lol

I have 4 cats and there is no way i am giving them up, DH has already taken over the chore of the litter boxes as they are all indoor cats, and also if you have cats and have had them for a long time, you will have had this and be immune to it anyway, but just avoid the litter box and avoid getting scratched if possible especially from kittens.

HI all, this is my first post on here, but i thought i should say something. Toxoplasmosis - i spoke to our vet about this as we have a cat and i did not want to give him up while ttc. He said that the virus txoplasmosis becomes present in cats poo after approximately 5 weeks, therefore if you clean the litter tray out regularly there is no reason why you would be at risk of picking up the virus. On the other hand if you are a gardener then you should always wear gloves while gardening as the virus is potentially prevalent in the soil as cats, rats and other small rodents (who all can carry the virus) may have left deposits in the soil. Again common sense and washing hands is all that is needed. Also not all cats carry the virus and you can have them checked by a vet to see if they have ever carried the virus.

I hope this helps and keeps you all happy with your kitties :)

Oh and dogs do not carry the virus, so dog owners need not worry about this, but washing hands and wearing gloves when poopascooping is always advisable :)

thanks for the info! and welcome to bnb!!

Hi All,

I'm new to this site but wanted to say that my doc agreed that we won't have to get rid of our two kitties (love them to death) and just to be careful about the litter. We have had them for two years (indoor cats) and even though we want a baby, I couldn't imagine getting rid of them!

Best of luck x

hey inspired, can I just say I'm honoured that your first post was in my thread! :happydance:

always nice to meet a fellow kittylover!

hope you get your :bfp: soon!

From what Ive heard the only thing that is actually dangerous would be cleaning the cat box because of the dust. It can transfer infections and bacteria to you. The cat though should be fine.

Before i had my daughter i had 2 cats, brothers, cuthbert and dibble, i always wanted animals but my parents would never have anything other than a goldfish!

For my 21st Birthday i got my cats :) i had no idea i was going to have a baby as i was one of these woman who thought it will be years before i can. When i did become pregnant nothing was mentioned about the cats, however in my heart i knew, with the size of flat we had and the fact the only rooms they were allowed in was the living room, kitchen and spare room made me think if the poor we things had to loose going into the spare room what kind of life would they have.

After discussion we agreed we would need to give them up but only if we could get someone we knew to take them and luckily for us my OH at times uncle was looking for a cat! So he was more than happy to take them. When the day came i couldn't even stay in the house when they went, i gave them a goodbye kiss and hug and left for my parents house crying like a big baby! It was so hard so emotional not having them around the house everyday like they had been for the last 2 years. But they had a great new wee life by the seaside! And as far as i am being told have never been happier.

If circumstances had been different, ie bigger house etc i would have had no qualms about keeping my adorable kitties xx

There is really no reason to give up your cats. I work in a vets and Im pregnant. Toxoplasmosis can be transmited through cat faeces but as long as you wear gloves when handling your kitty's litter tray its fine! If your cat is an indoor cat then obviously the risk is minute! I have two cats and would never dream of giving them up. xx

I would never dream of giving up my cat because im pregnant. Hes a naughty little thing at times, he attacks you when playing and runs round the house like crazy. If hes allowed (which he isnt unless he sneaks in) in my son room he will jump in the cot.. ive caught him a few time asleep in there with my little boy. Still this doest make me let him go, im not worried at all about him with the new baby. Hes to much a part of the family. I live alone so i change the litter tray.. i never wear gloves.. ok i probably should but i never remember its that quick of a job! I never had a problem in my last pregnancy and im pretty confident i wont in this one. Oh and hes also an indoor cat.. he goes out now and again but not very far i live on a main road!

I do alot of gardening, again i dont wear gloves (i hate hte feel of them) so i just wash my hands afterwards.. although i did forget today and ate some sweets whilst out in the garden :dohh: lol

xx

No way would i consider giving up my cats just cos im preggers!Absolutley no need to do that, cats are fine.If you have always had them around, you probably already have it, its only harmful if you catch it whilst preggers, which is unlikely.Just dont touch their feaces with your bare hands-which you woldnt anyway!

what are you talking about i love everything about my cat, even her poop. i touch it all the time.
