I do it all the time and every now and then I get funny looks, is it dangerous to do it?
Sometimes the lift is just too far away, what do you think about taking the LO up the escalator with the pram? Too dangerous?

I used to do it but dont anymore for 2 reasons,
1- a friend of mine had a one of those buggys where the car seat clips on and it came off and tumbled down the esculator, luckily the handle and the fact she was belted in saved the baby.
2-I did it when I was in a rush one day but the swivel wheels on my pram turned the wrong way and it was balanced on one front wheel and I had to hold it up till the top and it scared me I thought he was going to tip out!

the usually have a sign saying pushchairs not allowed, so i dont do it x

id be too scared incase it tipped over plus one time i seen a girl on them with a buggy and the stairs broke and she struggled to carry the buggy down...the lifts just look a lot easier to me tho i do go on the ones that are flat with the pram and they say not to lol im a rule breaker xx

No never! the only time we have done it I carried baby and OH held the buggy x

i never do it as im scared il drop the pram. but my hubby does, scares the shit out of me but hes a big strapping man and its no big deal for him lol x

Never, most escalators have a sign saying not to put pushchairs on. Hence why you're getting funny looks. The lift is too far away? Too far away to walk?

I always use the elevator, its not worth the risk.

I've never done this, I don't think it's safe. I've seen loads of people doing it, though.

I even feel a bit funny going on them with my sling. I definitely wouldn't with a pushchair.

The only ones we've ever done it on are the flat incline type! and even then only if the pram is empty and one of us is holding the baby! The big signs say not too so I'd be worried about getting thrown out of the store! lol

I always just treat the extra walk to the lift as a good excuse to walk off some of that baby weight!

You're not allowed to for good reason. Just walk to the lift rather than risk injury to you or baby.

ive always seen signs under the moving handle part saying hold onto childrens hands, and no buggies.

I've never done it as I don't think it's safe (as per why there are signs not to do it) - I always use the lift. Better safe than sorry.

I have never used a buggy on a escalator and i wouldnt.

Its too dangerous and in the UK your not allowed.

There are signs all over them saying no Buggies.

Just to quote what you wrote
Sometimes the lift is just too far away

It might be too far away but its the safest option and if you have the energy to walk around a shopping centre or whereever you are then im sure its not too much effort to walk to the lift!!

I'd rather get the exercise and walk to a lift than being risky and using the escalator. Isnt exactly a safe option!

Nope. its not worth the risk.

Lift too far away?
What a ridiculous thing to say.

I see a lot of people here saying "I would never do that" but I know so many people that do

It is dangerous, but sometimes there is no other way - not everywhere caters for buggies/wheelchairs. Like here the shops etc are so tight that you sometimes have to use the escalator, because they don't have space for a lift. Probably hard to imagine, because in the UK you have lifts everywhere. But also, it's like going down the steps, and TBH if you take the escalator, you should take as many safety precautions as possible, i.e. double checking LO is fully belted in etc.

I do it when I need to, but because it's hilly here, I bought a little wrist link from Mothercare, attached it to my buggy handles. I got the idea from the Bugaboo, which come with them.

I put it around my wrist whenever I go down a steep hill (I've slipped over in the past and couldn't live with myself if I fell, let go of the buggy and LO went into oncoming traffic  I also use it on escalators, and hold onto the handrail for dear life. I also make sure I go whichever way doesn't mean I'm tipping LO upside down (e.g. I don't put the buggy front first going up the escalator, because she ends up feet above head); I don't want her throwing up all over the place.

The wrist link isn't foolproof, but it's better than not using one.
