I've had some gripe water sent over (I am from Spain) but I was reluctant to use it because no-one knows it over here, but one of my twins is driving us all crazy with his temper due to colics. Do you think its always safe? I want to try it but I'm always scared of new things, especially for the children X

Used it for my LO with no problems. Helped quite a bit. I liked to dip his dummy in it when he was having a particularly bad time with colic.

I don't think they would sell things that aren't safe. What ways does it make you worry? I used it with both my children, it was fine. As long as you follow directions and throw it away within the time I don't see the problem

It has always helped my son. We mixed it into his bottles when he was particularly fussy, and I never noticed any side effects or anything from it.

Thank you everyone. What I meant by "safe" is that in the leaflet inside it talks about components that can give an allergic reaction, and I just wondered if that had been anybody's experience. Didn't explain myself well, very overtired twin mummy here lol X

Never had a problem with it, and it did help. Most gripe waters have similar ingredients in them. You got new bottles sent over, right? Only thing is that once the bottle's open you can only keep it for 2 weeks or so (check the label).

Yes, my aunt got it at boots and sent it over, it wasn't easy to send it by post as they don't let you send liquid things without a lot of questions, I also noticed the 14 days thing, not going to last long but if its worth it i will certainly get more. I've opened it today but haven't had a chance to try it, will certainly do so tomorrow X

my only worry with it was all the E numbers, but i used it, i put it in his bottle and this made him sick so i stopped using it, then i started dipping his dummy in it and he was fine, but i then realised gripe water wasnt the right thing i needed for him, i used it for reflux, not wind

Yes, the E numbers are what are said could give him an allergic reaction, even a delayed one, that made me nervous. If such a thing happened it would be hard telling the doctor as they wouldn't even know what I was on about, though I suppose I could take the label (should such a thing happen). I just worry to much :dohh:

You could try fennel tea, it has much the same effect as gripe water and of course natural so no e numbers. It might help? Is it just for wind/cramps? My friend had a lot of success with fennel tea but my LO just spat it out.

They do have fennel tea, they drink it, but don't think it does much for them unfortunately. They like it though X

Hi calm, just seeing if you'd posted anything and just saw this. Gripe water is completely fine. Harriet had it and it was our miracle cure. You could just try a little, leave for 24 hours then see if he reacts. Think it's trial and error. Used special comfort ( anti colic milk for Harriet ) and anti reflux formula for George. These helped. Xx

You stalker Inky  I did try the gripe water dipped in his dummy, he had an awful morning and I attributed it to that, truth is, it could have just been bad luck. Might try again tomorrow though XXXXX

Lol not usually such a stalker!! Really hope it helps him. Maybe he is teething also. Xx
