hi all,
up until recently our little one has settled fine of an evening but this last wk or so when we put him down he grunts, groans and wriggles like theres no tomorrow, its frightening really as its like he cant breathe properly. Hell do that for a few minutes then its as if he just goes to sleep instantly. I dont know if he's fighting it or what but even so its not v nice.
Weve resorted to propping one end of his carry cot up so he's on a slant, he seems to settle a little better but not much.
I rang the hv today and she said oh its normal the hospital dont clear the airways anymore they want the baby to do it on their own now so he's prob just getting the flem up if you like but he sounds like he's going to really hurt his throat
has anyone elses little one done this? he's absolutely fine in the day its just of a night time

My LO does it, but only when he's put down for the night for some reason?? I've also propped the head end of his basket up. He seems better when I swaddle him too ??? I've been assured it's totally normal but it still freaks me out a bit x

Yeah it's quite normal Lewis has done this from very early on, only recently has he stopped (well mostly) so I'm finally getting to sleep at night without being woke up by his groans all the time

Awwww you dont know how much better that makes me feel. That he's/we're not on our own have they said anything to you about what it is?
im on the verge of going to the doctors with him over it

They just assured me he will "clear it" he also sounds a bit "nasally" at times... it's always a reassurance to find people in the same boat....hugs x

No but it is very common and there's nothing actually wrong with them, thier just noisy at this age. I have googled i and came up with grunting baby syndrome but it's nothing to worry about. I spent weeks worried every time he did it

It's perfectly normal.

I can't remember when it stopped but Harry doesn't do it now (although he is still a wriggler!).

aww thankyou girls you've made me feel so much better to know that theres nothing actually wrong with him xxxx
