You may get a few more answers in the LTTC section nearly all the Ladies there have been where you are and can offer advice etc.

Good luck, fingers crossed for you.

Thank you. I've had blood tests at the doctors to confirm PCOS and my partner has done the SA and his little swimmers are fine. So what's the next stage?

Not necessarily, she may be more suited to Femara or Metformin, or something quite different. Every patient is different and you can't generalise.

I've had more than enough appointments to know what the procedure is.

jeeez, thanks for reminding us we are in a hormone fueled forum.

Best of luck!! I hope they have some good news for you. :)

I haven't seen my Fertility Specialist yet, as I've got one more appointment until I'm referred. I did get an "unconfirmed" diagnosis of PCOS though, just last month, which explains a lot since we've been trying for over a year to get pregnant!

I have my first appointment next Friday, I'm so nervous, especially about the $$ part. I just found out my insurance doesn't cover any infertility testing. I can't afford to spend a whole lot of money on this.

Make sure you differentiate between infertility testing, and reproduction assistance ! I called repeatedly and asked very specific questions. Ours will cover all testing and procedures necessary to diagnose and treat infertility, but NOT help with reproduction. What this means is if i had a tubal blockage, i could get the testing to diagnose this, and i could get the surgery to correct it, but they will not pay for medications, inseminations, egg removal or anything else. I would have THOUGHT they might be willing to pay for insemination as long as it comes from my DH because it's literally a spin and a pour procedure, but they wont lol

Make sure to ask specific questions and also ask if they have any fertility programs they're coupled with

Also there's a LOT you can do through an OB or a GP instead of a fertility specialist, have you exhausted all possibilities and testing done through either the OB or GP ?

Thanks folks! Didn't mean to cause any rows!! Either way, femara, metformin, clomid, they'll try n help me ovulate right??

Hi I had my first appointment with my doctor a few weeks ago! He put me in for a fasting blood test I was on cd5. I had that and now just waiting for my ultrasound on the 28th. Then on the 18th of march back to the docs for an examination and results :) it's taking sooo long :(

From what im aware of the metformin doesn't actually induce ovulation, but femara and clomid yes. I have YET to get a straight answer as to what Metformin does (other than cause terrible diarrhea) but im on it, and im taking it lol

Metformin can be used to treat women who have PCOS to reduce insulin levels and promote normal ovarian function. So although it doesn't induce ovulation, it's used in women who ovulate on their own to help give a stronger ovulation or alongside Clomid or Femara if the Doc thinks it will help.

I knew it helped to decrease insulin resistance but thats about it. Thanks :) I have the Metformin and Clomid !

Thanks for that info! My GP referred me to my OB who then referred me to the FS. My OB said my problem isn't getting pregnant, it's staying pregnant and she said she can't help me with that, hence the referral to the FS. I'm not sure what he can do though.
