Hello everyone, I had my HSG on Friday and the doctor told me that I had a tilted uterus and that I had one viable tube which is my right one. I know this sounds silly but I was so relieved it was over I have no idea what was wrong with the left tube. If it was blocked, it was of my understanding that it should be clear now as that is what a HSG is supposed to do. Well, that is what my FS told me anyway and the nurse assisting the doctor doing the HSG said that my tubes were given a good flush out.

My next FS appointment is not until April next year but am I right in thinking the not only are HSGs to check your tubes but to clear them as well?

In my FS's word she said "a HSG is like a two in one, not only is it a test but it is also a small procedure".

Thanks in advance

Hello Irish eyes

I was under the impression that a HSG is to check to see if tubes are blocked at at times where there is very small debris, then the dye sometimes flushes it out ?
I may be wrong but I thought for any blockage as such needs a lap and due to actually find out what the blockage is, if any.

I had my HyCosy last thursday and my left tube is clear but the dye wasnt flowing through my right, and I was told by my doc at the time of doing it that this doesnt mean it is 100% blocked as this is impossible for them to say, they can only read from the monitor which showed no due going through.
Basically some people can be given false results ie being told you have one or two tubes blocked , when really they arent. This can be because sometimes your tubes go in to spasm when the dye is going through but this doesnt mean they are blocked,
I hope this makes sense.

Basically - try not to worry, stay positive because you never know, you may get pregnant naturally as we will never know for sure if our tubes are blocked 100%

x

Hi Irish Eyes,

Yes, the HSG is a two in one - it checks your tubes and uterine shape and gives your tubes a good old flush out. My specialist said that there is an increased chance of falling pregnant within 3 months of having a HSG because the tubes have been cleared (but this obviously depends on things being generally ok anyway). After my HSG I was told I have fundal fibroids and an uneven uterine lining so now have to go for further investigation on those but will still be BDing in these next 3 months just in case things flow more smoothly/quickly through my tubes now!

These HSG results are sent to your GP (or specialist who referred you) so you could phone them up and ask about what they mean by one viable tube and check to see if it is blocked or if it just went into spasm (like Ebony Blaze said) - some Drs are happy to talk over the phone about it. Good luck x

The way they check your tubes any small blockages will be removed but if the tube is totally blocked then a HSG won't really help.
BUT saying that I know someone who had almost totally blocked tubes (both of them) and fell pregnant the cycle after HSG! So yes there is evidence to say that you are most likely to get pg right after HSG.

Good luck and I hope you can call and cancel your april appointment because you had some good news!!!
