had scan but dates are all mixed up so confused can anyone help!?

hi there, after advice please on dating and scans etc!!, had my last period 29.12.09, testes pos 01.02.10 then after cramping, had a scan on 23 feb where they said all ok but 8 weeks gone so went ahead and booked normal ultrasound and had it today, they say i'm only measuring 9weeks4 days. how can this be? also, having counted back 9 wks and 4 days, that would've only been like a week before i tested positive? anyone had any similar experiences? i'm so glad babie's ok but frustrated that we still can't tell people!!!! advice much appreciated x

Hi there

If you are 9w4d today, that means you ovulated/conceived around 7w4d ago - 23 Jan, but pg is dated according to the first day of your last AF, assuming you had a textbook 28 day cycle this would have been 9 Jan, not 29 Dec.

So 2 options:
1. You ovulated a bit later than a 28 day cycle would suggest, so your LMP date is not accurate for dating pg in your case - this happens a lot.
2. The scan measurement is not very accurate. When pg with #1 I had a scan when they told me I was 9w4d, but for the whole pg I measured ahead for my dates and even went into labour 2 weeks early, so I don't think the date was very accurate.

None of this really matters though as you have a happy little baby with a heartbeat!

I know how hard the waiting game is - I had my 12 week scan on Monday (was exactly 12 weeks) and am so happy I can finally tell people. Boy it was a long wait!

thanks kaz just needed a little reassurance i think! they're booking me in again for scan in two-three wks so i guess it'll becme clearer then! as u said though io'm just so glad there was a healthy baby! thanlks again x
