:haha: I'm not a regular in general chatter, but I'm in need of some hair advice and have seen some great advice given to other people, so I thought I'd try here.

Since I was 19 (I'm 26), I've been having highlights put in my hair (not very regularly - I go about twice a year), but I've decided that now baby 1 is on the very close horizon, I'd like to cut back on the needless expense (and give my hair a break from bleaching, although it is in very good condition). The thing is, I don't want to look like something from the Shameless estate if I grow it all out and my roots come through (which they already are as I last had it done in October!!). I tried dying it with Nice n Easy last Summer, but that was a disaster as it isn't really meant for use over highlights and bits looked ginger, it looked patchy and was just awful, so I'm reluctant to do anything like that. Some people have advised me to just bite the bullet and grow it and have regular trims until it's all gone, and other people have said why not grow it, have the trims til it's gone but keep having a semi-permanent colour applied by a professional until it has grown out. I'm worried about the latter in case it looks like the nice n easy disaster again! I don't want to pay my normal haidresser to do it as for a cut, blowdry and highlights it's usually around £100-120, and would be about £80-90 for a normal colour in place of highlights. Excessive IMO. My husband works with someone whose wife is a hairdresser and I'm going to start going to her for my hair, but I want it done tomorrow at short notice as I feel rank atm, so what would people advise being best? Grow it out and let the sun bleach it in summer (always happens - I'm naturally dark blonde); or grow it but colour it in a natural colour until it's all out?

Next question. I have a fat face. No beating around the bush here - I've always felt conscious about it as if I gain weight, it shows there first! I cannot carry off really short styles, and last time I had my hair done I had all my layers cut out completely. I have lots and lots of hair, so it's a thick mass of ringletty stuff that needs straightening to work the shorter and funkier styles, and I just don't have time to do that every day - I like to wash it, dry it if I have time, but mostly just scoot off with damp hair and it dries naturally ringletty. I ditched the last hairdresser that dared to cut too close to the chin line after me specifically telling her NOT to. At the moment, my hair reaches my shoulder blades. My roots are about 4 inches at their worst point... but you can only tell in certain light because I am fair anyway. How should I have it cut to get rid of maximum colour while keeping enough length not to make me look awful or need to give high levels of maintenance to my hair? I usually just have about an inch trimmed off and the layers freshened up (if I have layers, which I don't at the moment), but I'd say I've got a good 12 inches worth of colour in my hair and to cut it all out would mean I'd need a crop do! LMAO.

HELP a really thick (when it comes to hair) girly please!:haha:

Wow,alot of info!!You sure your not over thinking this hun?if your hair is dark blonde and youve got highlights then they probably wouldnt be too noticeable when growing out anyway.my hair sounds the same as yours and I had it cut into a crop style just over a year ago and had highlights put in.iv since then been growing my hair again and the highlights are completely cut out (my hair is shoulder length now).but no-one noticed my roots at all.i guess it depends how severe your highlights are.mine were pretty subtle considering some of the ones you see.if yours are a bit more obvious then could you not get one more professional colour to closely resemble your natural colour then grow it out from there?your roots wouldnt be as noticeable then.but it does mean one last expensive trip to the salon!!
Good luck

LD! How are you? Can't get on my msn at the mo :(

Right, your hair sounds lovely - first of all - and fear not, I didn't go to the hairdresser from April until December. Found out I was pg, went once...and didn't go back. I looked like Cousin It.

I'd personally let the sun colour it...weather is loads better now, and sounds like you are very lucky with your hair colour being naturally blonde. It will look really pretty, with parts being a darker blonder and the rest naturally bleached by the sun?

As for the cut, how about some of the weight cut out of your hair? If you have lots and lots, then it could just shape it for you?

Am not sure on cuts regarding colouring, as I've not got coloured hair...but I know what you mean on having lots of it (although it's been falling out, postpartum hair lossage!)

Good luck on with what you decide - am sure it will look lovely. Hope all is fab :hugs:
