Has anyone ever purchased a cloth diaper from eBay?

Just wondering as they're so expensive in the stores I was hoping to find more reviews but came up short.

On eBay I found some AIO Cloth diapers that are only $5.79(USD) and was wondering if I should purchase a few to cut on the costs of diapers?

Here's the link to one of them: https://www.ebay.com/itm/290570174392

Any suggestions? I know I have a ways to go before my little one is here, but I like to be prepared as much as possible.

If anyone has any recommendations for some cheap cloth diapers or reviews on cloth diapers from eBay, I'd highly appreciate some help. :flower:

I have purchased all my cloth Nappies from eBay. No complaints, they're soft and fit bubs great. Maybe buy one and see if you like it. You can get some real nice ones in the eBay auctions for a very reasonable price. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Thank you, and yes, you've helped a lot. I was worried that the quality might be poor, to the point that the stitching might come undone after a couple of washes. How long have you been able to use them before you start noticing some wear and tear or anything coming undone?

I only started using them when my little man was about 8 months. So far so good, still look quite new and have some use left in them.

Was it easy to switch? This is my first time cloth diapering, and my first child. But I've helped to raise my two-year-old brother and now my three month old sister. They're both in disposables though (2yr in training pants and diapers at night). I'm hoping it won't be too much of a burden on whoever watches him while I'm at school, as two will be in disposables and one in cloth.

It's not a hard switch you just need to get used to some extra washing lol

These are a pockect nappy, not an AIO. These nappies are known as ebay cheapies, if you search the forum you will find tons of threads on them. It is probably worth ordering a few and see how you get on. I used to use them a lot with DD1 but found when she got older I couldn't get enough absorbancy out of them (even when boosted with bamboo) so i just use them for her round the house now and stick with big name brands for out and about (like Bumgenius, Totsbots Easyfits and Blueberrys). I liked them though and have loads of cool prints (not this particular seller but others) and kept most of my cheapies for DD2. So I would try and couple and see if you like them.

Daycare shouldn't be a problem, my DD1 goes four days a week and we send AIOs / pockets with her and for them it's the same as dealing with sposies, except that they put them in my wet bag instead of throwing them in the bin.

Ahh, okay, thank you. I've been rather confused on all the terms, especially being new to all this cloth diapering. And that's good to know, I'd rather spend a bit more later once I know what I like and what works for us. How many cloth diapers would you recommend to buy for a newborn and at what age/weight( (since I've noticed a lot size them by weight for the one size, which I eventually want to get when he's bigger) would I need to add more to our diaper stash? I'll probably end up like most ladies here and have a nice sized stash with various types, but as a starting set up, should I go with more fitted and not bother buying the one size until he's a bit bigger? I've read that the fitted work better through the night so would a mix of the two be more ideal?

Lol, sorry for the barrage of questions. I want to know all I can about cloth diapering, I plan on doing it for all of my children and maybe sharing with some friends and family the first hand benefits of cloth diapering, as most think I'm nuts.

And we aren't doing a daycare center or anything like that, it'll just be my grandmother or mom watching LO while I'm gone for a few hours while I'm at school. I couldn't trust anyone else with my child but family. I'm even on the fence about sending them to traditional school, as the system is just completely failing at the moment.

Looking into newborn options I came across this starter kit with 12 prefolds and 2 covers:
https://www.kellyscloset.com/Bummis-Newborn-Pack_p_4220.html

I've read through the reviews (only 3), and am thinking this would be a good way to start while I get used to cloth diapering and am waiting for my son to fit into the one-sized cloth diapers.

It does say that it fits babies from 5-9 lbs, though, so if I had a larger baby I might not get too much use out of them, but 2/3 still use them as absobenecy boosters, and I'd be saving the covers (as I'm sure I'll buy more as two doesn't seem enough even though you can reuse them after a quick clean up) for our next child.

I like them though, and buying this and maybe another would give us enough diapers to where we're only washing every other day (might be every night though as I don't quite like the idea of letting dirty/wet diapers sitting, waiting for me to wash them, lol). What do you ladies think?

Hi there! I have a few of the eBay cheapies and find them just as good as my other ones. Saying that, I have tried more expensive ones and don't like them half as much as my eBay, sunbabies, and kawaii diapers. The eBay ones however vary a bit. Some came without thigh snaps. This causes some wing droop, so I save those ones for OH cuz they are easier for him to put on. I also use prefolds for the night as I can load them up with boosters. As a cover, I have found the woolies (I use Disana) to be the only ones that last the night without leaks or rashes. I love prefolds though, they are easy and cheap and low maintenance!

So from a starter standpoint, how many and what kind should I get? I like the idea of the prefold starter pack, but I'm not sure if my child will be less than, right at, or more than 9 lbs (I hope he isn't 10! lol) so maybe some larger prefolds and covers to start off with and a set of pocket diapers?

I have quite a big and varied selection of newborn diapers that I'm going to try out to learn what we like.

I will probably use disposables for a few days at the very beginning until we're settled at home. Then I'll switch to cloth and am hoping to mainly use muslins with wraps until he/she is big enough to it into the diapers I have.

I have quite a few eBay cheapies that I got for great prices. But I know it'll probably be a couple of months until they fit.

Have a look online for any sites where ladies sell their diapers. Newborn ones are use for such a short time that preloved are often in near perfect condition for very good prices. :)

Check out Etsy.com too. I buy some of my inserts from a few sellers for reasonable prices and the quality is always very nice.

Okay, this is a completely honest review.

My son has had nothing but cloth (minus the first few days of the black poop, my MIL said the black poop stained her cloth diapers, so we used disposables) , and we have had the same (exact same ones as you are looking to buy) diapers since then, now at 8 months old. Now, they WERE good, and I'd imagine they'd be good IF you handwashed. The outside of it is supposed to be waterproof, well it's not the material on the outside that makes it waterproof, it's a lining on the inside of it, and that tears REALLY easily, it took about a month for every last one of mine to tear. So we had to get some plastic pants to go on the outside of them, as well. (If you still want to go that route, the Gerber PEVA plastic pants are THE best)
That being said, that is WAY too expensive for those. Babyland and BabyCity and the brandless one you're looking at are all the same, and I averaged out around $1.50 for each diaper, with one insert.
Also, on the subject of inserts, I don't care what kind of pocket diaper you get, you are going to need more than one insert (especially the thin ones that come with the diapers) after the baby is about 4 months old. Make sure the dimensions are right, and get the 3-layer microfiber inserts, they average about $1/ea, and are SO worth it.
ALSO; we DO have to use disposables with my son at night, pull-ups actually (he pees A LOT) , they just absorb more (unless you were to put about 3 or 4 inserts in the diaper, or you got a better quality diaper).

Also; you might not like to, but if you rinse them with vinegar, it A) disinfects them and B) keeps the fleece SUPER soft. It smells horrid when your kid pees (don't do the sniff test with cloth diapers rinsed in vinegar, trust me) but it's a LOT softer and results in less diaper rash with mine ;)

ALL IN ALL;
I will definitely be cloth diapering my next (it's SO simple, SO easy, I couldn't imagine wasting my money on disposables for day-time EVER again) , BUT, I, myself, won't be going with that brand.
If I were in your shoes, I would get a better brand, and don't go with velcro, it's not worth it. Snap diapers are the way to go. Try Bumgenius, pretty much whatever "big brands" are out there are probably good.

It actually evens out, with price, between the cheap diapers and having to go with plastic pants as well, because you have to keep getting bigger sizes of plastic pants as they get bigger, with the one size diaper.

If you have ANY questions, feel free to ask!!

EDIT; Also; I got 48 diapers. It really depends on how often you wash. If you wash daily, probably 24 or so (they go through a LOT in the first few months) but at my mum's house we washed every other day and it literally worked out perfect. As for plastic pants if you're going that route...I would say at LEAST 15 pairs. At least.

Edit EDIT (god I should read through everything before I respond, eh? lol) ; My son was 8 lb when he was born, but dropped down to below 7 lb (long story, lol) and the "one size" snap ones still fit. They have the two snap-holes on the side of one of the tabs so you can wrap it all the way around. Unless you have a teeny weeny baby, the snap ones will probably work.
AS FOR ME, I wouldn't go with prefold, because they're much more of a pain that disposables. I tried them once and they just weren't for me. The snap ones are SO easy. (Also, the 3 layers of snaps down the front are for length adjustment, which is great, but if you're having a boy, watch out for peeing out the top, lol)

Ah, thank you SO much! First lengthy good post I've had. Not that the others weren't helpful, because all of them have been! But I knew there must be something dodgy about these cheapies, and having someone who's had a fist hand experience with them is extremely helpful.

Thank you for mentioning the black poop part, I'll be using disposables now for the first few days as if I'm going to be buying the better brands I defiantly do not want to stain them!

I guess the best thing to do is to start slowly collecting cloth diapers as we go through the pregnancy. I'll make sure to put a few that I end up liking on my registry in hopes some blessed soul will surprise me with a cloth diaper or two! :)

I'll be sure to ask if I come across any questions I need answering. Right now I'm searching youtube and all the reviews on there. I find it easier to understand each brand when I watch a video rather than reading reviews as I'm still quite new to all of this.

I'm sure I'll have a few questions after I go through the top brands.

YouTube is definitely the way to go. :) ObbsAndLala does amazing CD videos. :)

I agree with the collecting diapers thing. Especially if you order from China, they can take up to a few months to arrive. Also, if you have any questions you think I would be a person to answer, just PM me because I don't get to go through posts regularly and I would be a lot quicker to answer through a private message ;)
