My blood has tested high twice now. Called nurse and just get answerphone. Feeling anxious. Can anyone help me as to what happens now? Is bubs at risk?

I have it.

As long as it is controlled through either diet alone or a combination of diet and medication then there isn't much of a risk to the baby. They could be born larger and will have their blood sugar tested at birth. There is the slight risk that they can develope diabetes themselves, but from everything I've read its not very common, unless you have a history of diabetes in your family.

It sucks, don't get me wrong!! I have to test my blood sugar 4 times a day and keep very close count of what I eat and the carbs/sugars I intake, but, in the long run, its worth it.

In the short term, ie. overnight, a few days baby isnt at risk. But if you have constant high sugars baby is at risk of being overweight, and also becoming hypoglycaemic at birth.

Have you an app back at the hospital? I had to test mine for a week, regardless of them being high before they looked at my readings. How high is high for you? x

It was 7.5 2 hrs after dinner on sat, and 7.8 2hrs after lunch today. Other than that been in the 4s and 5s range. Really appreciate your replies. So sick of always getting voicemails at the hospital :-(
I suppose I just wait. Really hope can control with diet. Do u know if your babies are big? My fundal height has been spot on so far- so could my bubs still be big?
Sorry for all the ???s xxx

Sorry - only started testing Friday pm have to go back a week on fri x

If im good, and careful what i eat my readings are usually in the 6-7's 1hr after meals. So yeah yours are on the high side for 2 hours after a meal.
I try and eat my carbs last, so i fill up on verg/protein etc first, then see what i can eat. I cant have cereals at all - even with metformin, my sugars can peak to 14. Basmati rice is much better than normal rice. For breakfast i tend to have tinned fruit in juice with a yogurt poured on top.
I must admit, i am naughty at snacking. But ive been honest with my cons, and they said that my diet has to be realistic so they dont push me on that.

My baby is big :( At 32+4 she was way over the 95th centile for her tummy, and theyre concerned. Its one of the reasons why they are inducing me x

My fundal height has been spot on as well so far. Hopefully they caught it early enough that it won't be an issue.

I have been "mostly" controlling it with diet and a half a dose of glyburide (sp) some days my numbers aren't great, but its been mostly ok.

I'm on metformin 3 tds and insulin 4 times daily. At 36+3 his estimated weight was 6lbs3oz. I am being induced on Wednesday. His tummy measurement was fine at the last growth scan but it's been down to a good diet and exercise to work off the sugars. My highest ever reading has been 8.7 after eating. Only cereal I can eat is porridge!!!

Didn't realise cereal was bad ... Oh well, will have to see I suppose. Did u get other scans then? Not had one since 20 wks. Feel bad may have given bubs a weight problem and she isn't even born yet! My bmi was 0.03 above the cut off for testing. Good job they did...

A couple of high readings is nothing to worry about and more than likely won't affect the baby. I have several high reading every week, but my average blood sugar has been going down consistently since the beginning of my pregnancy. I haven't had a scan since 18 weeks, but my fundal height always measures perfectly, so I know she's not too far off of where she should be. I have another scan coming up in a couple of weeks. I am taking insulin 3 times a day, mostly tiny doses and it does wonders for keeping my blood sugar in check the majority of the time. As long as my average readings are under my targets, then my doctor is happy and won't mess with my meds. However, if the past 3-4 days have been consistently at or over target, then I usually have to increase my insulin.
