lol my luck just gets worse, well last week before i left hospital i had to give a urine sample, but the doctors surgery as some of u will no, called me up and asked for a repeat sample because it was out of the range. well i handed one in at the end of last week and they told me to ring up today for results. well i did ... but the surgery was shut, due to training or something!

well anyway since sunday i have been suffering with severe burning when i pee, and for about an hour afterwards, ive not worried because i get urine infections all the time so i no what it is, and was hoping to get the antibiotics today. Well in the past few hours ive got a throbbing pain in my side, about half way up my back, then it sometimes feels a tad lower, then a little in my side, all on my right side. do you think i need to see how this goes tonight and then tell them when i ring the surgery for results tommorrow? i also feel a little unwell.

if anyones had a kidney infection be great to no the treatment process

xx

I have had a kidney infection and it starts as bad ache in your lower back then it's gets excruciating!!! The pain stay in that area only. It's not your kidneys if is anywhere else.

I had a kidney infection 7 weeks ago. Pain was in left hand side of back about halfway up and was excrutiating. I had already had a uti diagnosed but the dopey doctor gave me the wrong antibiotics so they hadn't worked so thats why it then travelled to my kidneys. I ended up being admitted to a and e with really bad sickness and low bp. I had to spend 2 days in hospital on a drip. However not everyone who gets a kidney infection will end up in hospital! Keep an eye on your temperature and if you start being sick then get medical advice straight away. Do you have out of hours gp service? It might be an idea to ring them up now and explain about the pain. Kidney infections can be a real pain so try and get it sorted asap.

Hope you feel better soon lauralora xxxx

mine is half way up my right side and its been pretty constant, but at times it feels worse and then seems to settle back down into just an ache but its all completley on the right side. I dont have an out of hours doctor, when i rang up earlier it started transfering me to the nhs help line so i just hung up. i do have an appointment for tommorrow so i wll explain it all then. this is my fear aswell because i no ive had a water infection for over a week and theyve messed around asking me to repeat samples and now its got really bad! Thankyou for your advice, i do feel really sick :( i hope it isnt an infection in the kidney! was your pain constant or did it ever ease up when you was laid down?

and haha yep we do :) xx

The pain eased if I took paracetamol or lay down. Having a bath or a hot water bottle helped aswell x

Hi Lauralora, sorry to hear you are not feeling so well!

I've had a kidney infection before and the pain has been excrutiating to the point of laying on the sofa and being totally unable to move. I've also had several UTI's before and from them I have got cramps and aches and pains all over the place, especially the ones during pregnancy. It sounds to me like you've got pains from an UTI, if it was your kidneys you would have no uncertainty about the pain, it wouldn't ease and it would be in your back where your kidneys are.

Take some paracetomol for the pain, and fever if you have one, and just try and get some rest and relax (not easy when you're uncomfortable from pain I know). Ring them again tomorrow to get your results, or speak to them in your appointment and hopefully they'll give you some antibiotics to start fighting the infection. In the meantime, drink plenty of water, this will help dilute your urine and it won't burn so much when you pee (thats just from personal experience).

When I had a UTI and left it untreated it took a couple of weeks to spread from my bladder up my urinary tract and into my kidneys, so I wouldn't panic, waiting til tomorrow should be ok hun.

Hope I've helped to at least set your mind at rest. However, only you know your body and exactly how you feel, so if it gets worse or you start getting worried then call NHS Direct for some advice 0845 4647 (I am guessing you are in the UK?) and they will be able to give you a more professional and trained information as I am just giving you advice from my own personal experience :hugs:

I was given antibiotics and it cleared up within a few days

I hope you feel better soon xx

thankyou for your help :) ill update you on my results tommorrow xx

I had exactly this the other night, I ended up racing to tescos at midnight for a million cartons of cranberry and a hot water bottle. It was agony and defo my kidneys.

I drank LOADS of water and cranberry then took in a sample the next day to docs! she dipped it and nothing came up, so she sent it away to check. I had a letter yesterday to say no infection BUt was inflammation and i had to take in another sample to see if gone.

the pain cleared once i drank loads so DRINK GIRL DRINK!! but i suspect the inflamation was a bit of kidney inflamation thats now gone.

I wouldnt worry too much, UTIs and cystitis etc are real common in preg, nothing a dose of antibiotics wont cure!!

xx
