Has anyones toddler got a development delay?

DS was a late talker and has development of 22/26 month old in some areas, whats up Hun?

How do you know? Im worried about Zach, he is sich hard work. He wont play at all, he needs constant entertaining. He wants my ipad or the same three songs on sky all day long. He has no interest in anything. And his speech is awful. I videod him today. Ill attach a copy... compared to Madi as his age, he just is so slow. He doesnt seem to have changed much over the past year. :(

Go to your health visitor and ask for a Schedule of growing skills. This is an assessment that covers nine different areas and will highlight any issues - as Sam was so late walking he has them every six months they aren't intrusive just watching them play and asking them stuff (mind you the asking stuff was only his three year old one)

I know how hard it is not to compare but seriously you will drive yourself bonkers that way my lovely xxxxx

My son is 2 in 3 weeks and he doesn't say anything other than daddy! So I think your son is perfectly fine :) much more advanced than my son who never repeats anything I say
xxx

I have 2 older Dds and our Dr has told me at every opportunity not to compare his development to theirs. Boys on average talk later, toilet train later and go through puberty later. Their bodies just mature on a different schedule.

I watched the video and I think his speech is fine to be honest. Thomas's pronunciation was still very unclear at two and there are still some sounds that he can't say clearly at three. At two, nobody except family members could understand him really. Thomas had a speech and language screen at three and passed with flying colours, the nurse said that it is perfectly normal for them to have problems with certain letter sounds at this age.

I can't veiw your vid hun, we were referred to speech therapy at 2 as he had under 10 words, the delays I say above are from the point he was 3 years old and are found on basis of what his preschool/speech therapist have worked on.

Reggie until maybe the last few weeks has been unable to play alone, he's also obsessed with Gangnam style and Sexy and I know it and asks for these to be repeated. He will now play for about 2-3 minutes at a time but still had little interest in things.

I'm not worried about his development at all now (I used to be) he's actually really clever in some ways, and really enjoys reading and phonics!! he pays the finest detail to little signs on packets, or warning signs and road signs.

My DD is on the more advanced side too (she pretty much does everything he can and more) I think both are in the normal scale though!

I'd try not to worry, he will be one of those that won't do something until they can do it perfectly x

Omg Zach is obsessed with Sexy and I know it, and Mama do the hump lol ...

His speech seems great to me. My son is 2 at the end of March and he is no where near that. He cant count and what he can say cant be understood by anyone else, doesnt nod his head or say yes. Infact he says very little!!! Im not going to lie, its a big concern to me. but your little boy seems quite normal to me.

Do they not have a 2 year check?

xx

As PP your little boy seems fab to me, I understood him perfectly and he knows counting too bless him!

My little boy has a development delay in all the areas that the HV's check, he ranges from 10 months to 15 months in his development, he doesn't respond to his name, doesn't talk AT ALL not one single word apart from mamama etc babbling and he doesn't seem to understand anything I really say to him apart from drink? I think he knows what I mean when I say that but nothing else.

As others have said - his speech seems fine.

My daughter has a developmental delay and i would say that she doesn't say as much as your son does.

If you do have concerns though i would speak to your HV just to put your mind at rest.

My son was 2 in November but was 2 months premature so should have been born in January so a similar age!

He has been refered to speech therapist as his speech is awful...practically non existant and the very few words he does say only I can understand them. He is absolutely no where near what your little boy says at all.

He has loads of other issues going on as well as he has got something wrong with his heart/throat but randomly out of everything his speech is what worries me the most. He understands everything and is very physical...can skip, hop, jump and climb anything but I so want him to talk.

I have an 8 year old as well who also had delayed speech...he was saying even less than Joe is now but he had his tonsils/adenoids out at nearly 3 and it was like a switch being flicked and within days he was talking in complete sentences (and now at 8 is never quiet!). Joe already had his tonsils/adenoids taken out in september last year to do with his other issues and it hasn't made any difference.

I honestly don't know where to go from here...I seem as though I spend every single waking moment "talking" to him and looking at books etc encouraging him to speak but nothing. HV suggested he goes to a nursery as that would encourage him to speak but not so sure on that as yet.

Sorry bit of a ramble but just to say your little boys speech is really good-it may not be as advanced as your little girls buts its fab honestly.
