Having Second Thoughts

Several weeks ago, FOB and I decided on Molly Ross for our daughter. I still love the name, but I'm having second thoughts because of nicknames. I cannot think of any nicknames for Molly that I don't despise.

This is probably just me and my crazy pregnancy hormones, but I've gotten all bent out of shape over nicknames. I just really don't want anyone calling her Mo or anything like that. And it doesn't help that FOB has been calling her Wheezy (he's developed that one from Molly Weasley).

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't really want to completely change her name, but I don't want her to be called horrid nicknames for the rest of her life, either. Or am I just being totally ludicrous about the whole thing?

I have a name that does not nickname and wish I did...
I really like Molly Ross though:flower: You do not like Moll? What about Rossi for a nickname?

I thought about a variation of Ross, but we were planning on just calling her Molly. Although, we did go back and forth between calling her just Molly or Molly Ross. I'm starting to wonder if we should call her the whole thing, now.

And several of my friends mentioned Moll, but I'm just not very fond of it.

I really like the name Molly -- i think it's so sweet! I assumed Ross was the last name, but now realize that's her middle name?? I have never seen "Ross" used for a girl... or is it pronounced like "Rozz"? Which i have heard for a girl...?

I think Molly isn't really a name that has an official nickname... i doubt people will shorten it to "mo"... They may say "Moll" when saying her name quickly -- but i don't think it will be an official nickname.

What about "Molly Rose" as a first name -- nn. Rose or Rosie??

Yes, Ross is her middle name. It's pronounced like the normal boy's name. It's a family name, and I thought it was really cute when paired with a feminine name.

I've already had a few friends jokingly call her Mo or MoMo, and it really really irritated me. I don't mind Moll nearly as much as Mo, but I'm still not crazy about it. And FOB's Wheezy isn't any good, either.

I love the name Molly :flower:, and im sure that if you just keep correcting people then they will call her by her full name, thats what I did/do when people shorten my daughters name from Sofia to Sofe :growlmad:. xx

My best friend is a Molly, and yes she does get 'Moll' for a nickname. In Australia 'Moll' is sometimes used as a derogatory term though... meaning promiscuous. That's just us crazy Aussies though!

Enough of my ramblings, I think it's a beautiful name.

I like Molly but I'm not too sure on Ross as a middle name sorry x

I love Molly and i like the shortened molls too.

I'm not sure about Ross though, it's a boys name and it's quite masculine. Rose sounds lovely though :)

I'm really in love with her entire name. I've always thought Molly was a sweet, adorable little girl name, and Ross carries special family meaning and significance for me. I'm really not looking to change anything about it unless I decide I can't live with the nicknames. I just don't want other people butchering this lovely name I've picked out for her.

I'm starting to feel better about it. My mom told me I need to quit worrying. She said that nicknames will develop automatically when she's born, and a lot of them will be based on personality or physical traits instead of her name. And she said just to correct people who call her things I don't like.

Honestly, most of the time, I call her Baby or Boo. I'm not sure I want either of those to stick once she's born, though. :laugh2:

I understood Ross was the middle name and liked the way they sounded together:flower:
If a short form of Molly will be a problem for you - maybe choose another first name and have Molly and Ross as two middle names.
My little one is going to have two middle names.

I know a few Mollys and never shorten it (in fact I normally call them things like Molly-Moo and make it longer!). Nicknames can totally be engineered by you, or as another poster said, if you object you can keep correcting people by using the full name. My name's Lindsey and I always HATED the shortening of 'Linds', but I just asked people not to use it! People will be led by what you call your daughter, so I would try not to worry too much.

Have you thought of the nickname M, Em or Emmie? I quite like Molls as a shortening of Molly as well.

Good luck with what you decide. btw I love Ross - big fan of boys names for girls!
