I had a first trimester MMC a couple years ago so I am kind of anxious this time and would really like some idea of how my pregnancy is going, but I don't even have my initial nurse appointment until Friday the 30th. Would it be reasonable to call the OB's office and request a quantitative hCG test now? And how long does it typically take to get results?

My doctor did a blood test as soon as I went in (they saw me within a few days). I think I got the results 3 days later :) but it is possible to put a rush on it (no idea if they will or not if you ask though--I had a low HCG and emergency tests done so got my results the next two times within a day)

I think it depends on where you are. In Canada (at least in BC) there is a program set up where you can have access to your own test results. If I get a blood test before noon Monday to Saturday I will get the results online same day. Last night I was anxiously awaiting my HCG test and honestly sat at my computer hitting refresh for about an hour!

But I think in most places only a doctor can release test results to you, so it can take some time as the lab has to send them to the doctor and the doctor has to book you in for an appointment. So I think 2 or 3 days is pretty average, and longer if you live in a rural area that doesn't have a local lab.

I got a blood test at 4 weeks 3 days and a nurse called me with the results the same day.
