Hi, can anyone help me? My hcg level is currently 1439 at 5 weeks 2 days. It seems to have doubled every 2.5 days. Did anyone else have a doubling time of 2.5 days this early on and everything be ok? Thanks!

My RE insisted that as long as it doubles at least every 72 days (3 days), it's good. When I was 5 weeks, my hCG was only 496. It then started doubling faster and was 4209 six days later. At 7 weeks, I saw a perfectly sized little bean with a perfect heartbeat.

I know it's easy to panic when everyone else seems to have such astronomical numbers, but your doubling time as well as your hCG for 5w2d are both within range, so I would ask to schedule an early u/s and sit tight and enjoy your pg in the meantime!

Thanks PoodleMummy, that's really reassuring. I am so nervous after having 2 miscarriages I probably expect the worse too much. I see you have had six miscarriages so many congratulations to you with this pregnancy, that must have been emotional torture to go through all of those miscarriages as going through two I have found that very tough. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

HI
Remeber that when the numbers go over 1200 its between 48-72 hours doubling time. I too understand the paranoia I have had 4 miscarriages and am pregnant today so Im in beta hell too!!

I know I am worrying about everything after 2 miscarriages, but if the docs say your levels are fine then believe them. I don't think they have to exactly double, but they do need to increase by over 60% so you have that covered. Hopefully if you get a scan at 7 weeks or so you will see your little baby and that will relieve your worry for a little while.
However, I've had 2 scans and I worry all day every day (11 weeks now) after miscarriages this is totally normal. I will worry until this baby is born I'm sure.

You're so welcome! and yes, the first four m/c's were the most devastating experiences of my life. (The fifth and sixth were so early they were pretty much chemicals, so not quite as devastating.) I can definitely relate to the fears of being pg after m/c. Until my 7-week u/s I wasn't excited about this pg AT ALL and was "sure" something was going wrong. What beautiful reassurance that I was wrong and that little one was growing right along just like it should be! That's why I suggested you call your doctor and schedule an u/s as early as possible... the best hCG numbers in the world can't give the reassurance an u/s does! Best wishes to you for a happy and healthy (and worry-free to the extent that's possible) nine months!!

Thanks PoodleMummy, I feel exactly the same as you did and I can't wait until that scan when they say everything is ok. I wish you all the very best with your pregnancy, it looks like your on a home run now! Congratulations!!

Thanks Kat2504, sorry to read that you've suffered miscarriages too and at 11 weeks now it looks like everything is going to be downhill on the worrying scale for you now - I think it's extremely rare to miscarry at 11 weeks. I understand the worry though, it's all I ever think about. I will be so glad when it is all over and I get a baby in my arms!! My maths isn't very good (!) so I'm not sure what you mean by increasing by at least 60%. Congratulations on your pregnancy! :)

Hi 40yearoldmum,

Thanks for replying, so sorry to hear about your miscarriages too. Looks like we're in the same boat at the moment!! How far along are you?

I understand the increasing by 60% thing now, I think! So if one result is say 120 then the second result 48 hours later should be about 192 (72+120) That's a 60% increase right?

That's right. Also, a 60% increase over 2 days is roughly the same as doubling over 3 days. So, you can look at it either way.

I understand your paranoia completely! I've been checking my HCG and progesterone constantly! One time it doubled too quickly so I was worried about blighted ovum, the next time it didn't quite double so I was worried about miscarriage. Sheesh, our minds play tricks on us after miscarriages don't they?
Your HCG sounds perfect! I'm sure your little one is growing strong.

Thanks so much! It's terrible isn't it?! I used to be such a laid back sane person and all I do now is worry worry worry! There's so much conflicting information too. I just can't get my head around that everything could be normal after 2 miscarriages, even when my doctor is saying he is happy so far. I am waiting for my second beta result which I will get tomorrow morning, so I will be comparing 1439 with another number after 48 hours, I'm so nervous I don't know that I will sleep tonight! I also had a scan at 5 weeks and 2 days and just saw the sac and the doctor is happy with that too but I wanted to see the yolk sac even when I really know that it could have been way too early I still beat myself up about it. Have you had any scans?
