On Sept. 14th at 4:00pm I checked into the L&D for my scheduled induction. We spent the night there, they gave me some sleeping pills because I could not sleep and was having slight cramps. The next morning, feeling fine, at 8am they gave me the pitocin to start my contractions.

At noon, they checked me and I was just about 3-4cm dilated and my pain was starting to increase but I was able to handle it a little. They asked me if I wanted the epidural now, so i took it. Then I felt great, in and out of sleep. They gave me a foley catheter, and checked my cervix again, which was still about 4cm.

About 3pm, my cervix was checked again and it was now 9cm. They kept asking me if I felt the urge to push mainly in my butt. I couldn't feel anything down there. So I was not able to feel any urge to push.

Finally I started to push, which was not easy to do when you don't know what you're pushing on. Completely numb. After a few pushes, the epidural wore off and I felt everything. It was so painful. I could not handle the pain. I was pushing more often but the baby was not coming down. They could feel his head but he was not coming down the birth canal at all.

My midwife said there's a few things that could be wrong, he could be facing the wrong direction, my pelvis could be too narrow, or the cord could be wrapped around his neck, all these would prevent him from being delivered vaginally.

They wanted me to give a few more pushes before we made a decision. With the possibility of any of those, my choice was clear, c-section.

I tried a few more pushes, at this point, I felt really weak and felt like I could not push anymore.

It was now 6pm and they got the approval for me to go into the OR for my c-section. I was in so much pain at this point, they ended up giving me some more pain medicines to numb me before heading into the OR.

After a few mins, they were rolling me in and prepping me for the surgery. The whole time I'm in and out of consciousness.

I just wanted my baby to be out and everything to be alright.

I felt a lot better when they finally let my husband in, he sat right next to my head the whole time. Again in and out of consciousness.

After a few mins they pulled out my Evan and showed my husband, who's face was priceless. I couldn't see him, but as soon as I heard his beautiful cry, I started to cry. Evan Patrick Demmery was born at 6:58pm on Sept. 15th, weighed 8lbs 12oz and was 21 inches long.

It wasn't for a while that I got to actually hold and see Evan. It wasn't until 9pm that I was able to hold him. It felt so great to hold him.

The doctors did say that the reason why he wasn't coming down was because he was facing up. So even if we did get him to go through the canal it would have hurt more because they would have to turn him to get him out. :/ So, I'm really glad I did the c-section instead.

I still have a little pain from the incisions, but for the most part, I'm starting to feel better. Thank goodness for pain meds. I'm normally a tough girl, but nothing compares to the pain a woman goes through for the miracle of a child. As much as it hurt, I would do it over again in a heart beat. Looking at my baby, why would you not want to have more?

Here is a photo of him only 2 days old.
