I've had heartburn on and off for the past two months now.. I know some people have had it a lot worse! Now, I've got it and have had it non stop for a week. I'm just wondering, is there anything that people can suggest to get rid of it?
I've tried...;
Gaviscon
Milk
Water
Banana
Yoghurt

I can't think of anything else I've tried, but things only tend to work for a few minutes, before coming back! I just want to get a good night sleep as it's my birthday today, and I've got a lot of family to see :(

Thanks in advance!!:hugs:

Ive had it that bad sometimes, constantly for days. It helps to eat bland (I was eating plain rice with a little salt, or bland cereal) and the biggest help to me was peppermint tums. It had to be peppermint for that cooling effect. GERD runs in my family, even as bad as I get heartburn, plain peppermint tums has been the only thing that helped me and I have tried stronger things!

I had to sit down, and chew each one slowly it seemed for max effect, and little activity

I've had bad heartburn throughout my pregnancy too but mostly at night. I find milk and Tums works for me (don't know if Tums is a Canadian or North American thing) but sometimes nothing seems to work. I work for a doctor and when his wife was pregnant and had bad heartburn, he said papaya enzymes work (you can buy them at natural food stores). I haven't tried them yet but she had 3 kids and he said they worked every time. I'm not sure whether the fruit would work the same but I'm assuming the enzymes would be more concentrated and thus stronger.

Happy Birthday!! :)

I find eating raw fruits and veggies really help (they have natural enzymes in them that aid in digestion). Try eating a big salad with a homemade oil and vinegar/lemon juice dressing (I have a good recipe if you want) and see if that helps. And stay away from sugar and refined foods and see how that works for you! Good luck!

I eat an apple or eat celery. Liquid maalox helps me, I keep it under my pillow bc I get hb so bad I end up coughing uncontrollably sometimes it makes me throw up. :/
My dr. Prescribed me nexium as well, but I haven't taken it since I found that apples, celery and maalox have been working. Also when laying down lay on ur left side propped up a bit w pillows, that should help at night. Good luck!

I'd change what I was eating :) I found fruit helped - watermelon mostly. Just avoid the more acidic food, and sit up straight when you're eating :) don't lie down for a couple of hours once you've eaten. And make sure you chew everything properly, and slowly - that's what helped me :)

and happy birthday! :) :hugs:

mint ice cream is working for me but anything minty usually xx

Mmmm! now Im craving mint ice cream at 3:30 in the morning just cuz I read this and imagined how good it sounds!!
I only have vanilla  lmao

Rennies are the only thing that works for me - I get through packets everyday and feel panicky if I dont have any with me as theres nothing worse than that awful feeling of burn!!! Milk or a cup of tea helps too.

Fruit like apples or fruit juice makes mine worse.

Thank you for the happy birthday wishes :)

My OH went out and brought me 6 pints of milk on his way home from work so hopefully that'll keep it at bay!
Thanks also for the fantastic suggestions.. I know what I'll be doing today ahah. Definately will try them all to see which works best :)

Thank you all so much!

Vanilla may work if you close your eyes while you eat it xx[/QUOTE]

Haha I laughed so hard when I read that! I will def. Try it though:)

I was laughing at your response and my nosey 2 year old came over asking what was funny. I dared not tell him it was about ice cream or he would expect some!

Also on the heartburn note, I found that ice poles worked too. Ice cold water does the trick for me in the middle of the night too.
