Hello All - I am 5 weeks pregnant and worried as I was born with a dislocated hip and perthes disease. I have other related issues but was wondering if any one else has gone through pregnancy with similar issues? Or who suffers pain daily for other reasons.

I am so excited and happy and will go through whatever to have this child but would like to talk to anyone about this or just anyone else who is pregnant to share notes!

Loui xx

Sorry i have no experience, other than i keep getting a trapped nerve in my hip.

However, would love to say Congratulations and Best wishes xxx

Welcome! I hope that your body adjusts well to your pregnancy. I would ask your Dr if he has any recommendations to help you cope with the pain. Perhaps a TENS unit might be helpful? It blocks the pain signals in the spine without any drugs. I would also look into chiropractic and accupuncture for other non drug pain relief and see if that helps if your Dr says it's o.k. I have mild fibromyalgia so some days I feel like I have been hit by a truck but I'm sure it's not as painful as what you are experiencing. :hugs:

Hi guys thanks for your replies, I hadn't thought about a TENS machine, but that could be a good plan. I over do things and force myself to do everything everyone else does as it is so I think this is the time to be sensible and make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. I fear most that I may not be able to do everything with my child when it gets here, but I do know that I will love it more than anything in the whole universe!

I think thats a natural fear for any of us... i am sure you will be fine, and do not doubt that it will be a very lucky, loved and cared for child xxx

Hi there! I have spina bifida and also osteitis pubis so i suffer daily back/pelvic pain. There are quite a few ladies on here with similar problems so hopefully we can support each other through the tough times. My last pregnancy was pretty awful with all the pain, i'm sort of dreading it but hoping i learned a few lessons last time. I think the main one is not to expect too much and to rest when i need to, i did lasting damage last time by trying to continue working etc as normal. I was taking tramadol daily but have managed to go down to only co codamol 30-500 and only around 4 of those so i'm doing pretty well.

Hope you have a great 9 months and that it's easier than you are expecting xxx

Hi Mamamay! I totally understand where you're coming from! I had a horrible back injury last year and couldn't even walk for several months. I'm finally feeling good again and suddenly I'm pregnant! I'm so excited for this baby, but at the same time I'm so nervous. My back is already acting up a lot, and I'm only 6 weeks. I get to a point every day where I think 'What have I done?!?!' I've used all the usual coping techniques: chiropractor, massage, TENS, meds, heat, etc etc. Swimming works best for me! I wish I could live in the pool. Maybe now's the time to pursue a new career as a swim instructor. =) Anyways, if you ever need to complain to someone, I'm here for you! Here's hoping that things go smoothly for both of us!

yep me too similar to armywife... i have a spinal cord prob and hip / pelvis issues xx

hugs

Ah thanks so much guys - I take co-codamol and stopped straight away I didnt discuss this in much detail with my doctor when I went on Friday (he didnt seem to bothered) and was gutted I didnt get to see my usual GP as she knows how serious things are (put it this way if I walk in a room quick and sit down you wouldnt guess how serious it is!) and was shocked that there was no info box for the hospital about me having a disability - he had to cram it on the bottom of the form!

I will ask to see my consultant I think - even though after 17 operations he has told me to come back when I cant cope any more as due to my hypermobility I am not a suitable applicant for a hip replacement!

So glad I have found some other people who understand!
