Jen- Pockets are NOT all in ones. All in ones are exactly like sposies. they dont have inserts, liners, covers, etc. Pockets are that- diapers with pockets.
OP- youll need to likley get a sample pack of something and try out different types and materials. NOT all cloth dipes are made the same. Plus youll need to think about cost and if baby will be in daycare, will daddy/grandma change baby/etc.
There are Flat diapers. I like Little-Lions flats. They are a big square pc of fabric and you fold them in numerous ways and pin them. They need a cover and can be very cheap since they are One Size.
Prefolds. I like Green Mountain Diapers and Little-Lions. They are a rectangle pc of fabric and you fold them a couple different ways and pin them (or use a snappi) and they need a cover. These can also be cheap. Youll need to buy different sizes as baby grows.
Fitteds. I have only used Goodmamas. They can be expensive. They can also be cheap. They are made from a a variety of materials and need a cover. They usually snap or velcro. They are generally not one size, but can be.
Pockets. I like Fuzzi Bunz. They can be expensive. They dont need a cover but you need inserts. You CAN NOT (or should not) just change the insert when wet/dirty. you need to change the whole thing. They snap. They need to be bigger as baby grows. Sometimes they are one size.
AIOS (all in ones). I had a private WAHM make me some. They are exactly like sposies. Very simple to use for daddy, daycare, etc. Expensive though!! Takes a long time to dry. Can be one size.
personally for a little baby id use flats/prefolds and for a bigger baby id use Pockets or AIOs. thast from me CDing since 2006.
for a wetbag, there are many good companies that make them. I use them for out and about not at home. at home id use a dry pail (you can use wet) and wash the poop off with a diaper sprayer and then toss in the pail until wash day.
