Hello all

I just wondered if anyone had any helpful advice. I want to buy a few basics for my maternity wardrobe - I want to keep it as minimal as possible. I'm a size 24 (well, 22-24) and all I want is a pair of trousers for work, a pair of jeans and a few tops... Not much to ask I thought!

Well, I've been looking online today and I've been almost in tears (but that could be the hormones!). Even places I've found which actually DO plus size maternity (and to be clear, there is nothing on the high street, places like Evans do not do maternity wear) have no jeans in my size.

I would love to avoid Simply Be (although they also do not have any jeans for me) because I had a terrible experience with them last year which took months to resolve. However, they seem to be the only place which carries trousers suitable for work.

I found that H&M had some stuff, but again not the things I want. I've looked on ebay. I've googled every combination of 'plus size maternity uk' that I can think of!

I was even going to order from Old Navy in the US at the end, but a basket of clothes costing £110 had £70 shipping and customs added on...

Any advice is gratefully accepted! I should also point out that I need to keep costs down as much as possible...

Cheers

Fran

I know Next offer larger sizes online than they do instore, but not sure what size they go to. Have you tried eBay? I got some plus size maternity clothes from there a few years back and I found that most had very little use xxx

Have you looked on Ebay? Most of my maternity clothes are from there as it's far cheaper than buying them new. Maternity clothes by their very nature are only worn for a relatively short period of time, so stuff tends to be in fantastic condition :)

Im usually a size 22 and I got Next size 22 maternity jeans and found them massively large so had to go down a size 20 :) xx

You may be able to go down a size in new look, i got away with 18 maternity jeans rather than 20 and can still get in them fine at 20 weeks. I got some stretch trousers in a maternity 16 from Next so definitely worth trying down a size if they stock 22. Same with Dorothy Perkins, you could try a 22 as they are generous. It is a pain though if you have to keep ordering and returning stuff though.

Another suggestion is BonPrix - they go up to larger sizes. I can't see any work trousers on there at the moment though but i have had some ok tops and dresses from them.

Definitely try ebay. Also for a while you may just be able to go up a size in non maternity if they have a stretchy middle. "yours" have a range of clothes that are not strictly speaking maternity wear but would work as maternity wear, such as empire line and tunics and they do up to size 34. Doesn't help for trousers though!

Thanks for replies... I had thought about trying to go down a size in Dotty P or Next, although I'm worried they won't fit.

Already trawled eBay for jeans and had no luck. Size 22 seems to be the magic boundary beyond which you cannot have anything!

:dohh:
