Morning. DIdnt get much sleep last night, LO has a horrible snotty nose. Off to get a booger sucker in a minute to try clear him out a bit.

Just wondered if any of you have any tips for helping them out with breathing and general remedying of colds? We have the cot tilted and some vaporub...Anything else worth trying?

Some vapour fans from vicks or tixilyx worked well for us

How close did you have them to your LO? The plugs in my room are quite far from his cot. Was gonna pop out and get one till i remembered the pharmacy is shut on sat. Gonna have to go into town i think x

Oh ours was battery powered, i'll have a look at the name of it now

Edit: here we are https://www.lloydspharmacy.com/weba...Id=1008&storeId=90&productId=332033&langId=-1

i think im gonna get refills, im chocked up myself just now lol

Ah ive only seen plug in ones. Dont want to have to go into the center of town for a lloyds pharmacy grr! Cant park anywhere near and have to pay a minimum of £2 to park. Dont really wanna trapse round town with him while he has a cold. Ill see what i can find in boots maybe.

Thanks alot x

think boots have them too hunny, good luck!

I used the nasal drops when lo had a cold seemed to help clear it up quickly.
Hope lo gets better soon :)

The calpol plug-in vapour thing is really good for night-times, it was a life saver for us when LO had a cold. Karvol do one as well, not tried that one but I'm sure it's just as good.

Calpol saline nasal spray really helped ella, 11wks.
Use as often as needed from birth.
Loosens the dry snot and makes them sneeze it out.
If you FF though try not to give before a feed as I found it made her sick most of it up - I guess because it loosened everything too much.
Karvol capsules are great as well, just break on a muslin and hang in the bedroom.

my LO has a horrible cold atm and karvol has worked wondered with him xx

We're struggling with this at the moment. Abby hates the bogey sooker - always have. The NNICU consultant actually advised against them as pulling the snot out can be really irritating for them. Probably why she screams so much when we use it.

Liking the idea of the fan thing. I've been using Olbas oil on a hanky with limited success. I had it in hot water in the bathroom basin whilst she was in the bath and it seemed to make no difference. Maybe try the saline drops. Do boots do them? I did look the other day and maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing as I didn't see them.

Ok, a quick emergency trip to LLoyds Pharmacy - in fact went to 3 of them. None had the Tixylix fan thing. But I did eventually get a Karvol plug in one and after some spray v drops chat with the lass at the counter, I got a saline spray thing. I couldn't work out how you would get the drops in their noses??

Have to say, apart from the last one I went to, where the young lass was very good, the staff in the others were hopeless.

The saline spray worked very well for us when April was younger. It was definitely a Daddy job though as I couldn't bring myself to actually squirt it up her nose as it made her eyes water.

We also got a humidifier (she had a number of colds in quick succession) and this seemed to help keep her airways and chest clear.

Thanks ladies. I had to get a plug in vapouriser, but it defo helped him this afternoon. He seems really snuffly again tonight though. I tried out the booger sucker and didnt really like it to be honest. Felt like i was sucking him inside out. Ive got saline drops but not sure how much they help. Maybe ill try the saline drops, followed by the booger sucker 20 mins later and see if it helps at all. Hopefully it will clear up soon poor lil fella x
