Hi all,

SOO my LO was using Tommee Tippee bottles, and the HV advised to switch from slow-flow to vari-flow teats, as he was sucking too hard, which worked for a while. However his wind got worse, so we've switched to Dr Browns bottles, but I wasn't really seeing a major change. Today though, I just realised that the teats in the Dr Brown bottles were level 3 :dohh: we do have level 1 and level 2 teats to use, I'm just not sure which one to try first. His wind/sickness has just been getting worse, no wonder though if he's been getting his milk way too fast :dohh:

Any thoughts on level 1 or level 2? I would just start at level 1 but I'm just not sure since the slow-flow teats were rubbish for him.

We used the cheap-o Boots brand variflows with the Dr Brown's bottles and they are SO good, 100x better than the TT variflows. Maybe try those? She started using them at three weeks and we're still using them at 10 months, they are super.

Did they help with your LO's wind/sickness? (if she had any) xx

Yep, she had terrible wind and colic, and the combination of Dr Brown's bottles and the Boots variflows made a massive difference. The teats are quite thick and they have to work a bit to get the food out, when they aren't sucking on the teat it closes back up. The head of the teat is like an 'x' shape which stays closed when they're not sucking on it but opens up as soon as they apply pressure so they're not sucking in air or anything.

thank you! i'll try him with a level 1 or 2 today but will pop out tomorrow and get those

Are you also sure its not the brand of formula your using? ( if you are using formula)
We've had to change LO over 3 times before we found one that didn't give him wind and constipation.

When you get them, sometimes the 'x' slit on the teat kind-of reseals itself because it's been on the shelf for so long. After you take it out of the package take your fingernail and try to make sure the 'x' is pried open, they're like two little slits that criss-cross one another. I had to do this on about 2/3 of the ones we had.

I'm not sure, he's only been on formula full time since Sunday, but when we were combi feeding he wasn't as windy. Obviously breast milk is easier on their stomachs, and his stomach could just be readjusting to having formula full time, but the level 3 teat won't be helping if he's taking it in too fast. The HV is coming tomorrow and I was gonna ask her about changing formula, but I think she'll just tell me to try him on it a bit longer before changing. Which brand did you switch to?

When our LO had wind/colic she was on full-time breastmilk until 5 months when we went to combi-feeding with Hipp Organic formula - she tolerated it very well.
